Roll Call - Grand Haven Y Triathlon, Grand Haven, MI

Who’s in?

I heard from the race organizer (www.3Disciplines.com) this morning that more than 311 have already pre-registered for this first time event.

Bump.

With that many registered - there has not to be some ST’ers

I am registered. It’s going to be my debut race.

How are you planning on handling the half-mile swim-to-bike transition? I can’t imagine that 300 people are going to leave their running shoes on the beach, and I can’t imagine finding mine in the massive pile.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I’ll be there. Grand Haven is an incredible city! I’m really looking forward to it!

As far as the run to T1, I’m planning on toughing it out and running bare foot. I too, find it hard to believe that everyone will have their shoes chillin’ on the pier/beach.

Have a great race!

I will be there as well. Yes, barefoot for me also.

I’m in. Haven’t decided about the shoes.

Anybody swim in the lake yesterday evening?

I’ll be there representing the random-posting, mid-pack slowtwitchers. And with 300+ athletes, I’ll definitely be doing the T1 run barefoot as well…it’s going to be impossible to find shoes. Best of luck to those competing.

And I definitally swam in Lake Michigan yesterday. Choppy and cold, but it should be fine with a wetsuit.

What was with the fog that rolled in about 5:00? I swam South from the pier for about 18 minutes. Back the other way took about 32 minutes. Fun!!

Anyone have the times for packet pickup on Saturday!

I’m hoping I registered early enough to get a race jersey!

Find a fav rock near the pier and stash your shoes/wetsuit there.

Swam the course today. Cool, like 65 max. Wind changed in the middle of my swim. You gotta love Lake MI.

also - registration is near 400
.

Rode the bike course today. New asphalt for a mile or two stretch near the turn-around - cool.

.

Registration well over 500. I am told that there will not be any “day of” registration. This is huge for a first time event. Multisport is alive and well in West Michigan.

The City has prepared the run course quite nicely.

I saw a County tractor sweeping the bike course yesterday.

. . . And it appears that the Lake will cooperate - at worst 1-2 foot choppers. However, the Lake this morning at 8:00 was dead flat.

This is going to be a great race.

Was out for a run on the beach(Holland) this morning. The lake looked great! Calm as can be…but after my run took a quick “dip” to loosen up the shoulders…the water is pretty nippy! Local news this morning said lake temp dropped to 59. Looks like I’ll get to try out that new wetsuit!

Can’t wait! Race well!

nippy indeed. not quite brutal…but you’ve got to be ready for changing conditions with the big lake.

just talked with Emmanuel. Aquaman USA will have a crew and plenty of gear at the race. so if anyone reading is not wetsuit equipped…here’s your chance to get one of the best from one of the best.

BTW…not too late to sign up for the Three Rivers Tri on August 20th.

Wish I could be there to kick the shit out of you anthes, just will have to wait for interlochen. I will call for a report on Sunday.

taintman was brilliant, tough, but brilliant.

As to stashing shoes and so on from lake to bike transition, in my opinion, dumb and slow. Just run barefoot, cripes. Waste of time.

The sign upon entering Grand Haven State Park Friday around 3:00pm put the water temperature at 52 degrees. I don’t have enough open-water experience to say if that was accurate, but it was extremely cold for a pool-coddled swimmer like myself.

I went straight to the dive shop in Muskegon (don’t remember the name, it’s in the phone book) and rented a wetsuit for the weekend. Going to try it out this afternoon.
