Rockman RR

Rockman Race Report

I’ll keep this one pretty short.

Swim:

The lake was full of grass, nice. I think that Chip, RD, should keep that as the race signature. Seriously, the swim was pretty uneventful. My goggles did get kicked off with about 200 yards left and I had a hard time getting them back on without any water leaking in. Probably lost 1 minute due to that. No big deal, just closed my left eye and finished the swim. Slow 34 minutes.

Bike:

Not sure what it is but I still don’t have any top end. I am blaming it on the TTT two weeks ago. I was out of the water probably 75th place, by the time I hit the bike turn around I was 10th. Not too bad. After the turn around we had to take a sharp left. The intersection was not manned and the cross traffic does not stop. Well, I did not see the car coming from my left until the last second and had to lay the bike down. Ouch. Got up a bit bloody and bruised and continued on. One person passed me and I pretty much kept him in sights all the way until about mile 50 or so when I went by him. Now it wasn’t that I was in too much pain but I would really slow down at all intersections because I would freak out about getting hit. Bike split time 2.24, little slow for me but still fourth or fifth fastest.

T2

~38 seconds, fastest ever for me and my favorite part of the race.

Run

Having run a part of the course before I knew that it would roll a bit but that it would not be anything too horrid. There were no mile markers but I knew that I was running well. My stride and cadence were good and I felt pretty solid. I started to pick off the people in front of me one by one and ran my way back to 4th place with a 1.24 ½ marathon. That is my fastest run to date at this distance and it was the second fastest run of the day.

All in all aside from the crash I had a great time. It was nice to have a half early in the season and so close to home. To they guys at Get a Grip, don’t worry the bike is file. Matt will just have to retape the bars. Also thanks to HFP Racing for putting on the Triple-T, every race this year after that one will feel like a walk in the park. Thanks

Final finish time 4.24, 4th place.

Are the results up somewhere already?

We did pay for a cop to be there (Hunter and Beloit Rd). I was driving the course - noticed that he had left and found him at 173 and Beloit talking to a Loves Park police officer. I asked him if he was going to go back and was pretty much told to mind my own business. I do have a call into his Seargent…I did not get what I paid for - and now you paid for it. Sorry about that.

I Let me know how you call to the Seargent turns out. Thanks again.
