My daughter was there watching her friend’s brother compete and I was tracking several friends as well. She said it was hotter than a furnace on the streets. 2 of my friends DNF’s. Looks like only 1600 finishers out of 2700? IS that a record DNF? This was one race I was glad I didn’t get in.
Muncie 2012 was shortened to basically an Olympic distance and they moved the run aid stations to every 1/2 mile.
Thanks, wonder if this was the only time there’s been adjustments in an ironman branded race due to heat. there are plenty of hot races especially outside of US.
it was a brutal day. it was the combo of the heat with the wind on the bike that took it to that next level. I burned a lot of matches coming back in on bike fighting the head winds. I was care with my power, but I’m guessing matches are shorter with the heat.
On another note, this was one of the best run ironman branded races I’ve ever done. So well organized especially with heat management. The community really showed up too. Impressive for first time race.

Only about 2200 started and just under 1700 finished.
VERY impressive first time race. They really executed well. Kind of bummer they had to reroute the run course from the original plan, but next year’s will be even better. That awesome neighborhood section will still be included. Nice venue, amazing volunteers, and solid execution.
