Rock & Roll AZ, my first 1/2

Well, yesterday was the big day, my first 1/2 marathon. I have been pretty disappointed in my training the last 3 weeks, holidays and work hours killed me…but I was excited to finally do it.

Turned out to be a gorgeous day, no rain, clear, sunny, slight breeze, and cool, just about perfect for a run. My brother and I started with 18,000 others, and put our strategy to work. Nice and easy for the first 6, build the next 4, hold for the last 3.

We did the first 6 perfect, with a mix of 10:00 to 10:30 miles, nice an easy. Started to build at about 8, but we got to excited, and built too much. We started hurting at 10, and it was hang on time. 12 and 13 hurt bad, and if we had to go 13.2, I think I might have walked, but I didn’t.

Finish time was 2:12:13, little faster then my goal of 2:15. Also achieved my other goal of running the entire thing!!! Good start to the year, time to get ready for my first tri of the season, Strawberry Fields Tri in Oxnard.

Oh, one last thing, two killer products I tried out for the first time. First is Halo Headbands. I sweat alot, and always have problems with sweat in my eyes, didn’t have that problem at all with a hat from these guys: www.haloheadbands.com, already ordered a headband for under my bike helmet. Second, Blistoban. These little guys work wonders on blisters and nipples!!! I ran with a few on, and didn’t have any chaffing or blisters! www.blistoban.com

Congrats on crossing the finish line at your first half marathon. I’m glad the weather was cooperative. I ran the whole marathon there last year, and could only describe the day as not my best run ever-hot and dry, coupled with a time change. I heard they changed the courses this year. There was a mountain in the middle last year.

Have a great tri season!
