ROCK RACING - Love'm or Hate'm?

Any thoughts on Rock Racing’s marketing strategy?

Anyone have any thoughts on how to explain what “Bad Ass Mother Fucker” means to a 1st Grader? Granted they will hear, see and learn a lot in their youth, is this really necessary? Or, is this what all sports has evolved into?

Well this is the 1st I’ve seen of this and I’ve been into cycling for a while, so its not like every person that looks at Rock Racing sees “BAD.SS MF”. I dont really have a problem with this.

I hate rock racing but it has nothing to do with that sticker and everything to do with their slimeball owner and hiring policies.

I think BAMF would suffice. I’m not personally offended but I think it’s fairly over the top. Not to mention as the other poster pointed out, I may have never known it was there unless you had pointed it out.

if your 1st grader is getting that deep into cycling, then someone has a parenting problem…go let them play with blocks
.

Love is a really strong word, so I’ll go with like. Came in, made a big splash, got lots of people talking about Rock Racing and cycling. Won a few national titles. Love their kit as well, at least previous years, stood out from the rest of the stuff. MB - could care less but they made some noise and backed it up on the level they raced on.

Now if only they had managed to sell more jeans.

i like what they are doing. the BAMF sticker is a little questionable, but that was probably a individual thing that the rider did.

Overall, I think it’s cool to have a ‘bad boy’ element in the peloton. As long as they don’t race dirty.

What’s worse : You take a nice bike and Spray Paint it ? I did that to my Schwinn when I was in 6th grade…

Is this a new fashion statement - or disrespect to a sponsor ? I think it’s crap.

And the poor workstand too !

How is being into cycling a parenting problem? I think it’s a good thing if any boy or girl expressed interest in any sport that allowed them to be active vs. sitting around and contributing to the Biggest Loser

Love’m!!!

They’ve got the style (odd sometimes but still bad ass) and stuff like the BAMF sticker is exactly what makes them rock racing!! They are bad ass and don’t care what you think. Yes they will cause a stir but that’s their goal however they are doing good things for cycling too! Didn’t Rock’s owner set up some health care system for most of the pro riders?

Then again I’m 24 so my state of mind will be different than the common 37 year old who follow cycling (broad statement that’s probably inaccurate so don’t hate haha)

You better not let your 1st grader get into golf because in every tourney you see Tiger Woods mouthing the F bomb. Is that ok?
So some one put BAMF on their bike. Is it neccesary? Most prob not, but it would be up to a parent to let the kid know that that is not acceptable if they would rather not have that language around them.

Hey, I’m 37! nice guess.

I have to hand it to Michael Ball. He’s a self-made ex-barrio kid who likes to shake things up.

I just wonder how long they’ll be around. Their Indy Car team didn’t seem to last too long.

I thought Motherfucker was one word.

they can’t spell or paint!

They make cycling more interesting. Any sport needs its heroes and villains.

Pro cycling is a sport for grown ups, if your first grader is into it then great, but remember, this is cycling. If you’re worried about their fragile mental state based on a barely readable ‘BAMF’ sticker, I might suggest you’re missing the forest for the trees.

Do they still have this guy?

interesting guy… but more importantly, interesting helmet. Anyone know what brand / model?

The reaction to Rock Racing has been kind of funny. A story if I may…

The yacht racing community has always been looked at as an elitist bunch of wankers that had too much money and rubbed elbows at the “yacht club.” No peons need apply. Then in 2000 along comes San Deigo sailor Scot Tempesta and starts a small website “Sailing Anarchy.” The website, www.sailinganarchy.com, immediately got a reputation as being in-your-face with a lot of attitude. Admittedly they pissed off a lot of people. The sailing establishment immediately looked down upon them and, in many ways, tried to marginalize the folks who subscribed to their approach to speaking to the boat racing community. As you can imagine, the website’s popularity exploded and they managed to get interviews with the world’s best sailors, boat designers, etc… The establishment was caught off guard and Sailing Anarchy now has the largest viewed sailing related website on the planet and usually has a decent presence at every major regatta in the western hemisphere.

Does RR do the same thing and hit the cycling community with their marketing strategy in the same way. I have no idea. I do like their style and maybe they will end up getting more people interested in the sport stateside.

Their ‘Rock is Not Dead’ kits are the coolest race kits I’ve ever seen. Otherwise, I could care less about the team or its riders…
