Rock n Roll Man Race Directors

Race directors take alot of heat, here and everywhere. I would just like to say that Set-Up did an incredible job yesterday. Their run stations were stocked like m-dot races, and I have never been in a race where just about every mile was marked with a sign. Great traffic control, really alot of support on the course considering the size of the race. Although Macon in June is hot as hell, and hilly, I would urge everyone to consider doing a race put on by these people. They put on a great race.

I have to agree. I have ben to races in a lot of countries, put on by all kinds of people and companies, and yesterday, I was impressed.

Aside from the " slightly" short swim course, and slightly longer bike course, it was amazing! I loved the quotes they had on each mile from different Rock&Roll songs, great way to trick the mind into getting to the next mile marker.

Macon is a beautiful place, I was surprised by how nice it was! I would definately consider living in that area.

SetUp-Inc, along with Jim Rainey, did an incredible job!

Met with Cid Cardoso from InsideOut Sports ( his wife did the race) and he thought the same thing. It was nice to see a fellow brazilian at the race.

I definately hope to be back next year.

Heck, yesterday was only my 2nd Tri, (previous Monday’s sprint here in Macon was my 1st. But… I really enjoyed how stocked they were with everything at all of the aid stations. EVEN for the people in the back of the pack. (me)

I remember when I did my first Marathon in Jan, and I got to mile 20 and they were out of cups. I had the guys there hold up the cooler for me so I could get something to drink. (I was about to die it seemed)

Yeah, I really enjoyed this race. I dug the mile-markers too letting you know how far along you were every step of the way.

I can’t wait till next year!

That race was so well done I have throw my .02 in…

All of the volunteers were awesome, the run aid stations were life savers (pretty sure I’d be dead by the side of the road if it weren’t for those icy blue towels), and the sweet ladies in the recovery tent were simply angels…twice a very kindly lady removed my old towels and covered me from head to toe in new, icy-cold ones.

The bike was very well marked, and I was really happy to see all of those mile marker signs, especially since my cyclometer picked that day to go on and off.

All in all, kudos to every single person involved with the Rock and Roll Man.

I agree as well. An excellent race overall. The heat was a doozy on the run which I wasn’t really prepared for. Other than the distance issues the only other thing I would have changed about the race would have been to have the second aid station on the bike be at the top of a hill rather than the bottom of the hill. Tons of people were flying by sending water bottles everywhere.

i heard that the swim was marked using a gps by set-up using either the miles or meters setting and then whoever went to put the bouys out used the opposite setting (i don’t know about gps so i don’t know if this makes sense)

i have done set-up races before and always been impressed and had done one ga multisport race that i was fairly displeased with but this defenitely more than redeemed themselves.

felipe, do you think the bike course was long? i have no clue cause i don’t ride with a computer…anyone else have thoughts??

I agree - I thought the race was well done. I have only done 5 races life time but everyone was very polite and helpful. I thought the organization was great (the national athem snafu aside) and besides a very challenging hilly and hot day I had a great time. The volunteers were awesome. I dug the socks in the goodie bag too.

As for the course length - I am definitely no expert but the swim was short (as has been stated) and I had about 56.75 miles on my computer on the bike - a person that I passed at mile 54 was reading about 3/4 of a mile long also.

I can’t wait to come north for my next Set Up race which will be my first Ironman - Blue Devil.

Cheers!

How would you describe the course? Hilly? Trail Run? Shade on the run? Windy bike? …

Thanks

The bike course is very hilly and winding. I don’t remember too many substantial climbs but it seemed like you were always either going up or down or turning a corner. I did it in '05 and there was no wind at all. There was some fog though so it was pretty muggy. The ride seemed to go by fairly quickly but it was hard to get into a rhythm.

The run is hilly as well. There are a lot of tall pines on either side of the road so there is no wind and it got HOT. I’m talking about heat that was worse than Gulf Coast, seriously hot with no shade. I’m a native Floridian and I love the heat so I was eating it up. It’s all paved roads, no trail.

Huge transition area, plenty of room. Great volunteers.

It is a very challenging race but they really put on a first class event. I missed '06 due to injury but I will definitely be going back this year. It’s a smaller race but not lacking anything. The post race party was unreal.

What Hugh said, and the swim when I did it in 2005 seemed a little short. But other than that, top notch race.
