If you’ve already done it give me your thoughts on the bike and run courses. I’m thinking about heading down from Atlanta on Sunday to preride it but any info would be helpful.
I did it last year. Very well run race. Swim was a bit short, but bike was spot on and had mile amrkers every single mile. Same on the run. It was pretty darn hot race day - and I am a Brazilian living in Florida - I would recommend a Fuel Belt.
There were TONS of meltdowns on the run it was unbelivable, especially the last 4-5 miles.
Both the bike and run and rolling, the run a little less, but still hurts.
Overall, a very well run race.
If I remember Atlanta correctly then the bike and run shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Pretty much constant rollers very similar to what we have here in Charlotte, and what I think you have in Atlanta. The heat really picked up on the run and I totally melted during it. Well run race though with good aid stations (and ice cold rags on the run which were a godsend).
It was good enough that I’m also signed up for this year.
I did it last year, I’m doing it again this year. It is a very well run race. Smaller but not lacking in anything.
The swim was 2 laps in a crystal clear lake. It was wetsuit legal and I think it was a bit short also.
The bike course was winding with lots of rolling hills, little traffic. The hills weren’t that tough but they were frequent enough that you never got into a good rythm. There were few, if any, spectators.
The run was hilly and very, very hot. A lot of people came apart. They gave out e-caps at the aid stations which was cool. The one complaint I had was they were using the little cups for water, like half the size of the normal Gatorade cups, so you had to actually stop at the aid station and drink, it was kind of a pain to stay hydrated. They had plenty of IVs at the finish line and lots of people were getting them.
The transition area is huge, you’ll have more room than you can use which is a nice change. Great expo too.
Outback had a cookout at the finish line that was second to none. I loaded up on burgers and went back down to the lake to cool off. Standing waist deep in that cold water after the race eating burgers was one of the best post race experiences I’ve ever had.
I can’t wait to get back. Cheap hotels, awesome venue. I highly recommend it.
I’ve not done it but I’m signed up. Can’t wait to pound it out down in Macon. Should be a scorcher but from what everyone else is saying it looks really good.
Did it last year, it was my first 1/2 IM. I think I did it in 6:50+ I’m in super Fat boy shape right now. (around 212lbs)
Anyhoo, should be a fun race. I’m going to take it easy, and just chill out. I’ll probably post a decent swim time, but then let everyone pass me on the bike.
As I said in another post, I’m just shooting for sub 7:59:59

I’ll echo everything on here. Those guys run a fabulous race. Swim is short a bit, bike is tough for the reasons cited, never can really get into a rhythm. Run is tough because of heat and little shade. Alot of out and backs. Great finish line party. Transition area is big, there is room. I just can’t fit it in my schedule this year, but plan on doing it again.
Ditto the prior posts - I did it 2 years ago.
Would rec at least driving the bike course as knowing the hills will really help. Nothing brutal, but did seem like you climbed a lot on the first half only to give it back all at once on one downhill.
Run is very weather-dependant. This time of year, trying to do a run in the middle of the day can be pretty brutal; worse if you’re spent from the bike.
