Road rash scar healing

Anyone have experience with what to put on road rash scars? I’ve got scars of varying severity (regular white to a pink/purplish color). They feel fine, although the pink/purple scars are more sensitive. Also have a weird scar/bump on a finger from the same crash, although its relatively benign except when I’m rock climbing.

Thanks.

Tincture of time works best.

There is an OTC product called Mederma Scar cream that produces mixed results. You can also use some silicon gel sheeting to help thin thicker ones (not the thin, purple ones) you can try (an OTC variety is called Cica-care).

Don’t bother with the Vit E stuff/capsules to rub on that you will certainly here - several recent studies (couple from Derm in Miami) have disproved that old myth.

I recommend Johnson & Johnson First Aid Advanced Healing Adhesive Pads when the wounds are still fresh. They help prevent scar formation or at least lessen the severity. Since you already have the scars, you should consider consulting a dermatologist who may be able to treat your scars - possibly with corticosteroid injections (i.e. kenalog). I’m no doctor, but I’ve had some experience with bad scars.

Consult a plastic surgeon. Mederma is useless and the only way to remove raised scars is to either massage that fibrous tissue out or cut it out.

Why would you want them to heal and disappear ? Haven’t you heard chicks dig scars . You get to tell the story of how you got the scars.

If anything you should be aggravating them. Rub a little sandpaper on them. Make em really stand out.

I want them to heal because they’re horribly vulnerable to sunburn. The bump/raised scar thing on my finger I want to heal because it gets in the way when I’m rock climbing (eg small fingercracks).

The surgery scar on my shoulder (same crash), can stay there all it wants. Thus far in the four months I’ve had them, the shoulder scar has generated one ‘thats hot’ comment, the scars on my arm/elbow (which is much more visible) has generated no comments whatsoever.

Sounds like it’s getting mixed reviews, but I had good luck with Mederma on a scar on my forehead. I think they tell you to use it 3 times a day and avoid sun. It took a few months. The scar was fairly flat, but very noticible at first (the ER doc did a really bad job with the stitches)
