Road rash and swimming (1)

Got into a nasty collision with a car today - I am OK but got some nasty road rash on my left arm and leg. I am guessing swimming is out for a few days - how long did your road rash take to heal enough to the point where you could swim without being in agony?

I got t-boned by a 60lb dog last thursday night which resulted in my right butt cheek being pretty torn up. I did a sprint that Sunday and was in the pool monday night. Just as long as it is covered, I recommend tagaderm, and make sure to wash it out well I would say you are good to go if it doesnt hurt too bad.
Hope you heal quickly

If swimming in a pool the manager/lifeguard might have an issue until you;re well scabbed over. Open sores, even road rash, tend to turn others off.

Crashed on May 21. Some good road rash patches and a mild shoulder separation. Swam again for the first time on May 29 (open water) and raced on June 6. Would have swam the same wee, but didn’t have range of motion in my shoulder. Still have some scabbing going on right now.

Salt water was good for my healing. Expect the scabs to fall off a few times. Use Neosporin 2x daily, but after the scab starts to form leave it alone and let it get some air. I used Neosporin for too long and it didn’t help the healing. As far as agony goes, I assume you mean the sensitivity of the road rash. That should go away in 1 or 2 days, and the only agonizing part is getting it wet. Once it is wet, it shouldn’t hurt anymore.

I have heard of a lot of crashes recently. Stay safe.

if you dont cover it, youll end up with nice scarring.
i waited about a week

Swim in saltwater, hopefully not salt water from the gulf coast though.

I waited about 10 days, part of that was road rash and part was I was a little beat up (sore and consussion). I swim with masters and didn’t really want to walk on deck looking scrabbed over. I waited until it was almost 100% healed. Didn’t want to gross people out…
