Road bike with 650c wheels?

That is not a womens specific frame? I could go custom but am just looking for ideas for next year. Anyone make one? I need a 50-51 tt length so smaller frame sizes.

I have a track/single speed bike with 650’s, and I’m 5’10". It wasn’t an issue of frame size, I just wanted the smaller wheel for the better acceleration on the track. But I’ve ridden it on the road (single speed with brakes) and find that it rides just fine. Dave Levy of TiCycles raced a custom 650 road set-up. And he did just fine on that as well. The only problem becomes neutral wheel support – they’re all gonna be 700’s. If you’re not road racing, that’s not an issue.

Serotta Fierte. Smaller sizes are 650c. It is NOT custom. Just want to make that clear, since it is a Serotta. It is their one “stock” bike. Available in steel or titanium.

He does custom bikes at sane prices. I’d get a builders view rather than uninformed advice from people on the internet who do not know much about you.

While that is a small frame, perhaps it could be built with 700c wheels. If the only thing you get out of 700c is more choices, it may be worth the effort.

Thanks for the answers guys. To clarify, I don’t want 700c wheels. My tribike is 650, my touring bike and my soon to be fixie are 27 inch, I just got rid of the mt bike and don’t want yet another wheel size in the house.

And yes i know my choices are limited for wheels but ebay is full of good 650 wheels.

I figured that you wanted 650c’s since that size certainly is not that close to requiring them.

Guru also does custom at sane prices as does Elite.

I had a stock road bike a few years ago that was made by www.ticycles.com

Rocky Mnt Bikes used to make a bike called the ‘Road Wedge’ (a softride beam bike) with 650’s. I think they only made them for 1 year, so they’re hard to find. It’s a bit heavy, but comfortable…I like mine for the occasional ride. You might be able to find a used one for a lot less than a custom.

I would second Ti Cycles as a great choice. I think their stock bike (Hyak) is 650c in the 50 cm size (steel and Ti). And Dave Levy makes great bikes, whether stock or custom.

Felt’s road bikes in a 47cm size has 650 wheels. The TT is 50.5, so it should fit.

I went custom for mine. But I have freakish proportions. 47cm seat tube with 53 cm TT.

Thanks, I had checked felt but missed the couple of models with the smaller sizing. The F70 may just be it.

The only problem becomes neutral wheel support – they’re all gonna be 700’s. If you’re not road racing, that’s not an issue.

I got a flat and put my hand up, but those SOB’s never showed! Team car neither. Then I ran out of water and my freakin’ domestique disappeared! Then my soigneur no-showed for my post-race massage, my cook skipped out on me, and my damn mechanic didn’t even wash my bike!

I’m going to 650 - that’ll show 'em!
