I am trying to find a road bike for my friend. He is 6’1.5" with a 33" inseam. 58cm? 60cm?
Thanks!

Depends on the brand. I’m a smudge over 6 feet and have a 31.5 in inseam. I take a 58 in a Cannondale and a 59 in a Litespeed. Both have 57 or 57.5 top tubes (I can’t remember which).
With a road bike, it’s more important to fit by top tube length than seat tube.
Sounds about right, but being so dead nuts spot on with a road bike is not as critical in my experience as a tt fit. Once you get down on the aero bars on a tt bike you are locked in to your position more or less, very difficult to effect much change. On a road bike you have the ability to compress/extend your elbows and can hit a myriad of hip angles and positions. But year that sounds about right.
I’m 6-1 and 33" inseam, and I’ve got 3 58s and a 57.
You also need to pay attention to whether that’s a C-T measurement (center of BB to top of seat tube/top tube junction, most common for US brands) or C-C (center of BB to center of seat tube/top tube junction, so effectively about 1cm larger for the same number as C-T; mostly Italian bikes).
Of course that’s assuming a level top tube, which is getting to be more rare these days, so you often get a ‘virtual’ size to account for the sloping TT; however this makes the sizing even more flexible based on just using a longer/shorter seatpost… as said above, the top tube length becomes more of a limiter then.
I’ve got the same dims as you. I ride a 56 Cervelo with a long stem. TT bike is also 56. I can make a 58 fit as well.
I am 6’1.75", 32" (biker inseam floor to crotch), so I am more torso and ride a 60 Cannondale with a 120 stem with one spacer above and a few below the stem, maybe a 5cm drop seat to bars.
The 60 Cannondale and the 58 Cervelo Dual feel as if they were built for me, very easy fitting.

On average (across many brands), I’d say a 58cm.
