I have a road bike which I intend to set up as a triathlon bike. I have been riding tri-specific bikes for years, and usually ride with a seat angle of 76-78 degrees. This time around I wanted a road bike, so I could participate in road races as well as IM’s (heading to Germany in July.). I have flipped the seatpost on the road bike, and was wondering if I should put on my X-lab drinking system behind the saddle? I was wondering if that might compensate for the loss of weight over the rear wheel that occurs when transforming a road bike to a tri bike. Will post pics later with position and final setup… I intend to slide the saddle forward so that the virtual angle becomes close to 78 degrees, as opposed to the designed 73.5 degrees. Hoping the added weight behind the saddle might take away some of the poorer handling while in aero position. Comments?
I know water is 8.33 lbs/gal but I donot think that even 1/2 a gallon bac there will do much good for the weight dist.
I have my road bike set up very steep and it seems to handle pretty good now that I have removed all of the spacers.
You might be better off trying out the “big Slam” position that I have heard so much about if you are doing alot of road riding though.
