What is a good comfortable seat for a road bike?
Cobb V-flow. Have it on both my road and TT bike. I love 'em.
Do you ride your road bike at what would be considered a steep effective STA for a road bike? Meaning, do you sit on it on the rearward portion of your sits bones or the tt part of your sits bones with your hips rotated more forward on your Max? Do you recall where your saddle nose is in relation to bb…5cm? 10?
I freaking love my Max on the tt, but just couldn’t get it to feel right sitting the way I had on road bikes for so long.
I have the cobb HC 170 saddle on both my road bikes. I have the V flow max on my TT/tri bike but while it is the most comfortable seat I have ever used on a TT/tri bike I am beginning to think it is to wide (for me) and may try one of the HC 170s on it.
I don’t know but I was just on the cobb website and I saw it said the nose of your saddle should be a little offset in relation to the frame.
I probably sit rearward with my back bent over. (the wrong way to sit)

Lets see, I sit further back on the road bike then on the TT bike. As far as measurements, I have no idea since it was set about 8 years ago and has not changed a bit since then, other then changing the seat and setting it with the nose in the same place. I’d bet my set back is steeper then a regular roadie.
I’ve found that when just cruising I sit a bit further back into what seems like a cradle on the V-Flow Plus. When I start to hammer I slide a bit forward more into the TT position and use forward of the sit bones on the front of the saddle.
I didn’t like the Max at all, I use the V-flow PLUS. I tried the Max first and traded it in for the Plus. Then bought a second Plus for my road bike.

Common favorites if you take a poll are Brooks Swallow, B-17 and Pro (6 month return option from http://www.wallbike.com/Brookssaddles.html), Fizik Arione (flat side profile) , Fizik Aliante, Selle San Marco Regal, Selle San Marco Flight, and Selle San Marco SMP.
Specialized has a 3 width system that applies to all their models. Most have cutouts as well.
