Just curious to see what others thought. I raced IMCDA this year on my tri bike and didnt have a problem … other than the cold, but the Wisc course looks a lot hillier
This topic comes up every year. Ride the tri bike.
Are you all doped up on Optygen to even consider that an option?
How hard is that course have you been there?
No question - tri bike.
There’s like one, maybe 2 (if you’re winded for that second straight hill) that I get out of my saddle for… I’m on a road bike but only because I don’t have a TT bike. I’d be on a TT bike in a heartbeat if it were an option for me.
Just 34 more days!

Seriously, never never never ride your road bike in a tri. If by some bizarre chance you might be more comfortable or faster on your road bike then you have some serious issues on your tri bike. The terrain has to be highly technical to even consider a road bike. There isn’t a single IMNA course that would even be close to being considered “highly technical.”
Thanks, Chris
I’m doing the race for the first time this year. But I’ve ridden the course twice. My thoughts are that you will not climb the hills any slower on the TT bike than you will on a road bike. But you will decend faster in a TT bike.

What you truly need to consider is how much time would be lost by riding a road bike in the flatish sections which is the majority of all IM courses. That is, by far, where you lose the most time.
Thanks, Chris
Did it last year on a TT bike. I ran Aeolus 6.5 wheels on it. Next year I am going to use the same TT bike but a disc this time. That course is perfect for a disc wheel especially on 192/G long stretch outside of Verona. The aero properties of a tri bike will outweigh the climbing advantage of a road bike. Keep your speed up on the rollers and you can stay in aero 90% of the time.
I think the difficulty of the wisco course is vastly overstated.
Ride the tri bike, and don’t worry about it too much. Be sensible in your pacing and you’ll get off fresh.
If a TT bike is the way to go, how much faster would have Gina gone in 07?

Every year? This question has been asked numerous times in the past 4 weeks!
If you’re racing this year, don’t change anything. If you’re talking about 2010 and whether you should buy a TT bike or not, do it. You will have a better bike split and a better run split with a triathlon specific bike compared to a road bike.
assuming you are positioned well on a good TT bike that you can climb and descend on without fear
a TT bike
a TT bike is the faster combo but if you are on a bad tt bike or positioned poorly on the one you have, don’t use it.
