I just got a fantastic deal on a Giant composite road bike. (I’m not interested in opinions on the bike since I already bought it.) I already have a 2005 Blade for tri’s but I’ve never had a “road bike.” The issue is that they use a Giant carbon handlebar and I think I’d like to put some shorty aerobars on. I seriously doubt putting aerobars on these handlebars would be a good idea from a safety point of view. Can anyone recommend a decent road bar for a decent price? How about some decent shorties? Am I right that I should stay away from clip-ons with this type of handlebar. Thanks.
You’re right, you can’t put a clip on on a carbon fiber handlebar. There is one that you can, but let’s assume that you don’t have that one. As for bars, I don’t think there is any big differences. Just be sure you get a width you are comfortable with. As a triathlete, you are probably used to something more narrow than would be normally be fit to a roadie
