Damn. He had a hell of a run.
Let the false stories of deathbed repentance begin.
RIP Christopher Hitchens.
He did. I was there.
Interesting obituary. Even though it scandalized his friends on the left, he was willing to oppose Islamofascism fervently, as any consistent secularist in our day should.
This really sucks. I will miss watching him destroy debate opponents.
I was very sad to hear this news today. There is a dearth of people involved in political commentary that actually can think and do think before they speak/write. I believe he was one of them.
Out of respect, could we have some of the crazy theists on the board please chime in, make some lame and derivative comment, feel good about yourself, and try and steer the discussion towards the crockoduck. Hitch would have wanted it that way.
Betcha’ now he’s thinking, “Man, God really is great!!”
.

Except for the crockoduck, looks like he got his posthumous wish.
All hail the crockoduck.
Ps…this is definitely one of my favorite images of all time. The expression is priceless.
It took Guru 18 minutes. He’s slipping.

RIP Christopher Hitchens.
Hadn’t he made a bet with some prominent priest about whether or not there’d be a deathbed conversion?
I guess it’s tough to pay up to a dead man.
Here’s a good obit or summation of Hitch, citing his truthfulness and a vid of him in one of his finest hours. Note Maher’s body language when Hitch insults him. I don’t think Hitch was a mean person and he never really goes for the throat, imo, which is the key to smart debate, ie pummel your opponent but don’t actually draw blood on stage:
Even though it was written by a theist, that is indeed a good summation of the man.
Hitch was intolerant of stupidity and nonsense. Unfortunately, some good people got in the line of fire on that, Mother Theresa for one. But the Rabbi who once debated him said they went for drinks afterward and he thoroughly enjoyed the man’s company, despite their disagreements.
I think you misunderstood. Mother theresa didnt draw his ire because she was good. she drew it because she pretended to be good.
Also because of her relationships with dictators and other unsavory figures.

I never read his comments on MT. Just heard about it them in an article. But anyone who will make disparaging remarks about MT has large, brass ones. He didn’t really seem to care how people felt about him and was quick to break off relationships (and jobs) if he saw fit. Very refreshing.
The most brilliant thing said about hitchens death.
The Onion: “Fumbling, Inarticulate Obituary Writer Somehow Losing Debate To Christopher Hitchens.”
Incredible.
