Rim Tape on a Disc Wheel

Well do I need it? I assume that I do. But, with no spokes coming through is it necessary?

The disc I have is a Renn 575. Other than the hole for the stem and a seam where the Al hoop comes together, I can’t really see a reason for rim tape other than a little cussion for the tube.

I know that if it is unneed and a fellow STer see it (with our aero x-ray eyes), I will be a laughing stock.

When I got my disc from Renn I asked Frank (Renn Owner) the same question. He said rim tape was not needed but said to be safe put electrical around the valve hole in case in case a rough edge developed. I also put a small peice on the seam where the rim connects.

All the best,
RF

That is what I needed to know.

Exactly what Rockfish said.

Sorry to revive a super old thread and for what may be a silly question, but I just order a FLO disk (first time disk user) will I need rim tape for it?

Yep. The Flo disc is just a regular spoked wheel with a permanent cover on it. You will need rim tape (they provide it with the wheel).
