I bought a new pair of wheels and am ready to put the tires on. The wheels came with rim tape. This is good because I otherwise probably would have been too stupid to know that it was required. OK, now that everyone is clear on my mechanical skills and experience with bikes, is there any tips for the moron on slapping that tape on? It looks pretty straightforward, but remember what sort of skills I’m bringing to the dance…
Make sure the rim tape is cloth (not plastic, which can crack at the spoke holes) like Velox, and is wide enough to cover the spoke holes (tape comes in different widths). Put the tape on the rim, making sure the hole near the end of the tape is centered over the valve hole. The tape has adhesive on it; just roll it out onto the rim; it doesn’t stretch. I usually overlap the end a bit with the beginning, then trim it off.

Thanks, and no need for it at all on a disc or tri-spoke because no spokes, correct?
Correct.
