Rim for home made disc wheel

I want to have a go at making a home made mylar covered disc wheel.

Does anyone have a reccomendation on a good aluminium rim to use. In particular I am looking for a rim which has a good place to glue the mylar to.

I was considering an ambrosio excellight but keen to hear about any better options.

Thanks

can you true an ambrosio from the inside?

I used a Velocity Deep V

I would use a Velocity Deep V. They are 30mm deep allowing you to glue the mylar without infringing on the brake track and they are strong.

They are heavier than otehr rims if it matters to you. IMO rim weight is very overrated - aero and strong are much more imprtant to me.

Another vote for the Deep V.

An alternative would be the 30mm deep Niobium enhanced rim that’s sold as the “IRD Cadence Aero” or “Speedcific Niobium 30” amongst others…it’s lighter than the Deep V.

IME, having a nice flat area to glue the edge of the mylar to saves a lot of headaches.

Also, for a rim intended for a mylar cover, don’t scimp on the number of spokes. Go ahead and build it up with 32 spokes. You want it to be as durable and bulletproof as possible since it’s kind of a pain to try and true it once the covering is in place. Hope that helps.

I would also go for the velocity deep V i have one done up with that rim and it worked well for me.
