Right now at the TDF (not a spoiler)

Everybody always talks about how great of climbers these guys are, and they are, but watching the live feed on VS right now after the first climb they are on a 40k descent and they are tearing it up.

I’ve ridden in the mountains of Spain and done some long (15-20k+) descents with switchbacks and no guard rails and I can say it’s nerve racking and not easy. At times we were glad to be done with the descents so we could relax and start riding again. These guys are out right amazing the speeds they are taking the corners, how close together they are, how they navigate the race vehicle traffic and so on. Some fun stuff to watch right now.

I am watching it and at one point they were going up to 73km/h. That’s impressive considering if they crash and go over the guardrail they are toast.

The vignette about Schleck and his crash was interesting. When he said that the crash taught him that overall finish places and times didn’t really matter, but health does and that it changed him. Bet a lot of these guys haven’t had an eye opener quite like that. Great stage so far!
