Right / Left leg strength imbalance

Anyone have this? How can you tell? How can it be remedied?

How to tell? Is one leg stronger? One leg more flexible? Then yes, imbalance, I think in general you will have an imbalance, I have been working on mine, my left hamstring is much tighter than the right, and I think that is the main source of a large strength, balance and flexibility imbalance.

  • I work on 1 legged pedaling (on rollers this exercise is even better!)
  • one-legged squats
  • one-legged leg extensions and one-legged hamstring curls
  • work on flexibility, stretching. I am going to join a yoga class soon.
  • standing on one leg with eyes closed

If you hear of any other good exercises let me know!

I used to know of a pretty good way of both figuring out imbalance and fixing it but I can’t think of it right now. I am sure it will come to me soon though.

I have it from knee surgery. I think most PT’s will tell you to just do weights on both legs and they’ll balance out naturally. I can ask my PT for you if you want more info tho. I mean, building muscle mass is pretty simple: recruit new fibers through the usual way.

Yoga dude. You figure that out pretty quick when a pose on one leg is super easy, then you fall over trying to do it with the other leg.

If you’re lifting weights, do everything one legged, start with very little resistance, and don’t progress to a heavier weight until you can do the same set with both legs.
