Riding in Sydney

Hello,

I will be visiting Sydney for a quick business trip May 1st - May 6th and would really like to go riding on Saturday afternoon (May 1st) or Sunday (May 2nd). Does anyone know where I might be able to rent or borrow a bike? And does anyone have any contacts for groups rides that might let a yank tag along?

Thanks.

Ask your same question on this board. Trichat is an Australian forum.

Also have a look at http://www.bratclub.com.au/, or email the guys at http://www.cheekymonkey.com.au/mulhome.htm.

The first is a triathlon club, and I know they have training rides leaving from Centennial Park, about 4 km from the city centre.

The second is a tri-specialist bike shop, again close to Centennial Park.

1st of May is the NSW Club Championships held up at Nelson Bay (about 2.5 hours drive north of Sydney). Most Sydney triathletes will be up at Nelson Bay for the weekend (the race is on in the afternoon and there’s a BIG party on Saturday night).

This may mean that you find it hard to hook up with a tri club to ride with on that weekend (most riding is done early to avoid traffic). You could probably still locate some roadies to take you out for a spin.

As to who to contact to hire/borrow a bike, it probably depends on where you are staying as to your best bets.

If you are staying in the city, then Cheeky Monkey would be a good idea to try first up.

If you are staying on the north side, then I’d suggest Bike Addiction near Manly or Turramurra Cyclery at Turramurra. or Northside Cyclery at Chatswood.

Let us know where you’re intending to stay and I’ll see if I can make some more specific suggestions and provide telephone numbers and web addresses.

Which IronRange?

Thanks to for all the responses. I think I’ve now got a way to ride while in Sydney. Couldn’t have done it without your help.
