How is riding in Salt Lake City? I may be out there for a visit shortly. Anyplace good to ride, any place to avoid?
The riding is decent, and there are plenty of opportunities to do some great canyon rides. Wasatch Blvd runs north south along the east side of the city and links most of the canyon rides together. Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood, and Millcreek are out and back rides, unless you want to take fire roads over the top and drop into the Heber Valley (Big Cottonwood). Emigration canyon can be an out and back or extended over Big Mountain up towards Snowbasin and back down Ogden canyon (~80mi). If you want to stay on flatter ground you can stay on the east side bench and ride south into Lehi and Provo. There are also some bike paths that are more suitable for low speed scenic riding because of the walking/running traffic. Riding through town is not horrible, there are a number of routes with bike lanes and drivers are no worse than anywhere else.
