Riding in north westchester, ny

Going up to North Salem (Nash Road area?) this Sunday and have been told there are some great riding routes but have no idea where they are. Looking to do 40-80 miles depending on how nice it is and how completely I have recovered from Eagleman. Any info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Check out the ride library at nycc.org.

RTE 116 around the Titticus Reservoir… stay away from Rte 35; too much traffic…Ridgefield, CT is the next town over. Rte 121 down into Bedford is ok. So is 124. Look at a mapquest map of the Goldens Bridge/Cross River/North/South Salem NY area and that’s where you’ll be…
I might be up there myself on Saturday doing laps around the reservor. Swan Deli is at one end of the loop (8 miles around the reservoir) so you can stop in and fill your bottles. It’s at the intersection of Rte 22…
Hope this helps!

If you pop up this way shoot me a PM, Im riding 6+ on Sat but I’m most likely riding up by titicus on Sunday as well.

3rd the Titicus rec. Onea my fave rides. Go around counter-clockwise.

You can go all the way down 100 for some sweet aero TT action, and up to Brewster as well.

There are all kinds of side loops around the area too, lots of great roads to ride on.

Thanks alot for all the replies. I will start with some loops of Titicus and go from there. Any roads I should avoid (no shoulder, bad traffic, tons of lights, wheel tacoing potholes, etc) or particularly fun loops (30-60 mile range) that are common training rides for triathletes in the area?

thanks again,
Jack

You can try mapmyride.com also for some routes people have mapped. I have 1 loop on there from Purdys going north in NY and then into CT and back, and another from Briarcliff into CT, and then back into Westchester. Once you’re at the site, use the “find user” button and put in “ttrackstar”. If you’re not afraid of getting lost for a little, the best roads for riding are the little ones that you just take to see where they go…

Sounds good + thanks!

Everyone seems to do the Titicus Reservoir, etc. loop(s). That is indeed where I ride as well. Well, when I’m in NY. Yet, I’ve never seen anyone there… WTF? But yes, 100/116/35/22/etc. is the place to ride. My half-iron prep loop starts at the intersection of 35 and 22. North on 22 past Swan Deli, right onto 116 around Titicus reservoir, Right onto June Rd., Right onto 121 (through Golden’s Bridge) past the High School, right onto 35, and back to the intersection. It’s about 17 miles.

My long ride is to go 100 in Briarcliff to 35, left on 35, right on 118 (I think it’s 118) through Granite Springs, Right after the reservoir which takes you by the private high school (Lincolndale?), left after the school which runs you back into 100. Left onto 100, then right after Amawalk Reservoir (sign says towards “Salem Center”) over to Salem Center, which dumps you onto 116, up and around Titicus Reservoir loop as above, then complete the loop (adding/subtracting the jog on 22 depending on how far you want to go), and reconnect on 100 either up North by the Elephant Hotel OR by the 100/35 intersection.

I hope all of that was clear.

Thanks alot, that is exactly what I needed!

if anyone is in Brooklyn and needs to know where to ride I’d be happy to return the favors (answer is pretty easy = Prospect Park 3.3 mile loop - go around a zillion times, then repeat)
