Riding Help in San Diego

Im going to be in SD next weeek and I was wondering if someone can help me with a cycling route.

Staying at the Courtyard Marriot near the Airport. Can someone familiar with the area give me some direction for an afternoon ride?

I won’t have a car, so I plan on riding from the Hotel.

Oh, I don’t suppose there is any open water swimming potential near?

Thanks in advance.

you could ride the san diego international course out to cabrillo monument. awesome view.

the nearest open water swimming is at the cove, you could ride there, its about an hour or so by bike from where you are.

I’m not familiar with the International Course, could you give me directions to get me started?

Thanks

the ocean is kinda cold now… try finding a pool. theyre all outdoor and the mission valley Y is pretty close…

Yea, I was wondering about that, thanks

You could swim in the bay by your hotel. the water isnt that cold. or you could head to the ferry and go over to coronado and use that pool. bikes are not a problem on the ferry either!
for the bike, take harbor to rosecranes, turn left, go to canon, turn right, up the hill to catalina, turn left and follow to the end. do a few laps for fun!

you are staying at F

you can ride north to rosecrans or south to washington st. from there you want to get to D about an inch to the left of D is the start of the international course at spanish landing.

follow N harbor drive west till you get to scott street turn left
right onto canon st
left on catalina
follow it all the way out, there is a park ranger station where you will have to pay a couple dollars if you want to go into the park at the end of the point. I don’t know how much it is.

you could also ride to fiesta island.

from N Harbor drive
right on to NImitz blvd
follow until it turns into sunset cliffs
as soon as you go over the bridge there will be a bike trail off to your right, you will have to lift your bike onto the sidewalk since you will most likely be riding in the road to cross the bridge, go straight on the bike path when you can turn slightly left out of the bike path on to seaworld drive do so
turn right onto seaworld drive
follow it to PCH
turn left on PCH
fiesta island is the first left.

I know you said an afternoon ride, but if you have a chance the guys at Moment Cyclesport in Point Loma run a fun Tuesday/Thusday morning ride. Their shop is only a mile or two from the airport and the rides usually cover most of the SD International route with some hill repeats thrown in. I was there last month enjoying a lovely respite from the Wisconsin winter and had a great time riding with the guys and ladies there.

Google them up, JT and Cory are great guys!

I work downtown and would be up for a Strand/Ferry ride (South around the bay, up the Coronado side and taking the ferry back across to downtown).

Any/everyone is welcome…

Thanks for the heads up on this ride, but my only window of opportunity is Tuesday afternoon, when everyone else in my meeting is off Team Building - Golfing !!!

triclubsandiego.com has all our routes and workouts for the week. there is swim practices on mond. and wed. night at 730pm $5 to drop in. if you are going to be here on saturday you can do the swamis ride which leaves from BL at 8:15am. the ride is quite fast at this time of year

Take Nimitz Blvd to Mission Bay. From there go up to Mt Soledad, from there take Torrey Pines and ride the coast 101 up north.
