I am staying in Greenwich Village for the next couple of weeks, and have my bike with me. Have ridden round Central Park and tried a pretty suicidal trip on the cycle path that supposedly goes round the island…ending up on the freeway at one point, and recieving a B******ing from a traffic cop for my efforts.
Where would be the best place to go to get a decent ride in - 8 laps of the park aren’t that exciting. If this means getting the subway somewhere, thats cool (assuming you can take a bike on it?). I guess I am looking to do up to about 60 miles.
Check out nycc.org. Link to the ride library, pick a place, print the cue sheet and off you go. We ride mostly over the GWB and up route 9W to Nyack. Good 50 mile ride.
Yeah it was the FDR. The bikepath just disappeared, and I was kind of stuck against the river, so just got on it, it was 2 lane at that point but then came to 3. No one honked at me and the traffic was only doing about 30 so I did a couple of miles, before the cop had a few words and told me to climb over a wall with some spiked railings on with my bike (in cleats). Also got a puncture in Harlem a bit later to top it off!
