Ordinarily I stay away from posts that promote events that I am involved in. Nevertheless, I think this event is for a good cause and I hope everybody will forgive me. On August 21, the Davis Phinney Foundation is presenting the Sunflower Revolution Ride in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Sunflower Revolution Ride is a major fundraiser for Parkinson’s Disease research and treatment. Davis Phinney, one of America’s greatest cyclists, has been stricken with early onset Parkinson’s Disease (similar to Michael J. Fox). He created the Davis Phinney Foundation to raise funds for the treatment and research of this terrible disease.
A principle component of the fundraiser is the Sunflower Revolution Ride, which will be a chance to ride with cycling legends. We have, confirmed, Davis Phinney (Olympic medalist and two time stage winner at the Tour de France); Connie Carpenter Phinney (Olympic Gold Medalist); Wayne Stetina (former member of Team 7/11 and CEO of Shimano USA); Ben Serotta (CEO of Serotta Cycles); and Ron Keifel (Team 7/11). And we have Phil Ligget riding with us. Check out Phil and Davis at the Tour talking about the Ride. What continues to be exciting about this event is that our list of cycling celebrities continues to grow as more and more riders are rallying to support Davis Phinney.
There are a lot of great events going on this summer and I know everybody is pretty busy. Nevertheless, If you have a free weekend or want to use some of that triathlon training for a good cause, come out and join us on August 21. Go to www.active.com for links to the race or to enter.
