Richmond XTERRA- East Coast Cup Race. Need Help!

Greetings all…This is going out in hopes that the tri community can come togther and make something happen!!

  1. Xterra is coming to richmond in 2009… the logistics is still being discussed (ie. how many days, etc).

(2) There is NO BAD BLOOD between Sportsbackers and XTERRA, the two are still working together to make this event everything is should and will be… however, no $25k sponsor has surfaced. (previous years, Nissan Picked up the tab)

(3) Here is a possible opportunity for Sponsorship… all it takes is a email from YOU:

According to a couple of articles in the Richmond Times Dispatch, the XTERRA Races are set again for Richmond, but sponsorship is still needed.

The XTERRA circuit’s founders are looking for sponsors for the 2009 event after being unable to reach a new operating agreement with the Richmond Sports Backers, the event’s local organizer since it first came to the city in 1999.

Richmond is having difficulty coming up with the $25,000 required – and here is a solution.

Thanks to our friends in the White House and Congress, the Federal Stimulus package includes “General Assistance to States” provisions to help get economic development and job creation programs up and running. With over $400,000 generated by last years’ race, this project has a significant economic impact on the Greater Richmond Area.

Governor Kaine has asked for suggestions on how to spend Virginia’s stimulus money.

We’ve submitted the idea for “Sponsorship for Richmond XTERRA Race” (Project ID # - 3514).

If you think this is a good idea, I suggest you quickly send a quick email to Governor Kaine saying you support this effort.

You can email the Governor through this link:

A suggested message follows: (just copy and paste it)

"I support Project ID # - 3514 : Sponsorship for Richmond XTERRA Race, which was submitted on the www.stimulus.virginia.gov website.

The XTERRA weekends have generated a seven-figure economic impact on Richmond-area hotels and restaurants, including an estimated $400,000 last year, according to a study conducted for the Sports Backers. Richmond’s network of off-road running and riding trails and its urban whitewater setting have made the city a favorite stop of the professional triathletes on the circuit. In turn, Richmond has become a popular venue for amateur triathletes from along the East Coast looking to test their swimming, trail running and mountain biking skills. Each of the eight venues putting on this event was asked to pay $25,000 to help defray costs such as advertising, rentals and prize purses. Richmond is the only venue at risk at this point.

This impact of this event goes far beyond the economic stimulus of the race weekend. The enjoyment of the James River and these mountain bike trails are a boon for local retailers. They also make the area a nicer place to live, work, and play.

Sincerely,

xxx"
