Rhinestone Cowboy passes on :(

Glen Campbell passed away at age 81. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and his music was popular back then. I saw part of a documentary about him dealing with Alzheimers and it made me sad. RIP Glen Campbell.

Well shit. A true great. Funny thing is that the song most women request I sing is Galveston. Strange.

That sucks. When I was growing up my parents used to listen to him all the time, and I still enjoy listening to his hits from the 60s and 70s. I love his stuff like “Gentle on my mind” and “Wichita Lineman.”

I’ve always had a liking for Glenn Campbell’s music. I suppose as a kid in the 70’s I heard more than I remember. Seeing the list of his songs now brings back a rush of memories.

Adios.

This is very sad news. I always thought he was a great performer as well as a decent actor. His role in the John Wayne movie True Grit was excellent. He left a legacy of quality music, as well. And he was actually a top session musician in Los Angeles in the sixties and could play the hell out of his guitar. There was a lot to the man. It’s sad to see him go.

This is really touching. I definitely cried when he released it.

I always remember show in the early 70’s that he started every time with “Hi, I’m Glen Campbell”. Will never forget that accent.

“During a career that spanned six decades, Campbell sold over 45 million records. In 1968, one of his biggest years, he outsold the Beatles.

I’d have never guessed he outsold the Beatles in 1968.

Another vote for Wichita Lineman.

I heard this on my way to work, from an album of covers he did

He did many songs, including “Wichita Lineman,” with legendary master songwriter Jimmy Webb. Campbell enjoying working with Webb’s compositions for sure. “Gentle On My Mind” was a John Hartford-penned piece. They’re certainly in the great American songbook, if you ask me.

I watched the Jackie Gleason Show with my parents all the time, back in the mid-60s to when it ended in 1970. Like you said: “The best.”

That’s back when TV knew how to do a variety show, and everyone loved watching variety shows. Sigh. Those were the days.
