Rhabdomyolysis and triathlon training/racing

Anyone have any thoughts or stories about rhabdomyolysis and triathlon training and/or racing?

Thoughts? Yeah, after every marathon or IM I think about it a LOT! Ouch!

What exactly are you looking for? True skeletal muscle breakdown? Kidney damage from it? Blood marker studies?

There have been a few blood/serum studies with odd labwork in endurance athletes, but most show that it returns to normal quickly.

NYSLIM, I had rhabdo once after a double IM. I started peeing brown in the latter stages of the race and got very sick after the race (not because of the rhabdo) so they shipped me off to the ER. After some blood testing the doctor confirmed that I had rhabdo. Up until that point I had never heard of it. They kept me in the hospital for four days on continuous IV drip (not sure what the drip actually was) and wouldn’t let me go home until my CPK values returned to a more normal level. The doctor told me he was a bit concerned about kidney failure but I really don’t think my rhabdo was as bad as the doctors made it out to be. Not sure if this helps.
