Just got the postcard in the mail for this race. Seems
like they are going to have some sort of live video screen for family, etc. showing race action.
Any thoughts on this–the purse for the pros is $100k and they have some big names listed.
Looks like they are trying to compete head to head with KJ, as MM is also on 6/7.
competition is good…They better be able to bring it:)
We’re going to have webcasts, margaritas and beer, athlete tracking with MYATHLETE (including big screens for family members), Mo the Moose, kids race, bonfires, repaved, $25K in athlete prizes, great bbq with New England Clam chowder, spectacular course, and great race production…
The Rev3 transition is at an amusement park which will only be open to the racers, family and supporters. The race is in North Western/central CT. I met one of the guys running the race this weekend and they have a corporation paying the way and adding a lot of spectator friendly “stuff” to the race. They have 18 pro’s registered and expect over 30.
The course is similar to the Nutmeg Man race held in the fall (1/2 Iron distance) and looks like a very difficult course. The Nutmeg was. Winner finished in about 4:40.
Tom,
Many (~30%) of the competitors at Mooseman come from NY/CT area, so these two races are in direct competition with each other for athletes. As a matter of fact, the organizers of the rev3tri sent me an email saying “Great job at Mooseman last year! Come do our race this year!”. Not sure how they got my email.
He told me and I don’t remember as I really did not care. Its a technology company that is going to release some new GPS technology. I only spoke to him about the race because he was wearing a Rev3 t-shirt. For me, its close to my house and they have an amusement park to entertain my kids. Win / win for me.
I cannot imagine how a race could be planned better than this one and yet accessible to the masses. I’m interested to see how this race goes and wish I could participate…it just doesn’t fit my schedule.

big-time production, small town feel…
IT…IS…ON…LIKE…DONKEYKONG…
What, no Jordan’s Ice Cream this year?!
Should be interesting to see how it unfolds. I would say that they ARE competing, granted they seem to have different approaches to the races they are putting on. Looks like Rev3 is incorporating a ton of technology into the race versus the laid back small town feel of Mooseman. I’ve heard rumors that the Rev3 live coverage of the event will be online and put the IM Kona coverage to shame. Plus, they have a HUGE pro field that compares to what Clearwater had this year. Look at the womens field so far:
Natascha Badmann, Lisa Bentley, Joanna Zeiger, Jo Lawn, Leanda Cave, Bree Wee, Belinda Granger, Cait Snow, Rebekah Keat and Mirinda Carfrae
Mens field is not as stacked but good none the less- Cam Brown, Luke Bell, Michael Lovato and Chris Lieto
I’ve done Mooseman in the past and it is a wonderful event. I’m signed up for Rev3 this year. Its closer to my home and I am curious to see what its all about. Also heard that this race will be part of a series next year with a Olympic, Half and FULL event. Competition for IM finally???
I raced the original Nutmeg course, and I’ve ridden this course 3X so far. They don’t share any common roads. The course doesn’t share any roads with the new Nutmeg course either. The original Nutmeg course was tough (I think I had the 8th fastest bike split or so out of 400-500 people with a bike times of 3:00:01). This course is significantly easier - similar in total climbing to 1 loop of Lake Placid. I hope to be able to go about 2:35 or so here vs. 3:00 for the bike at Nutmeg, so that should give an indication of the difference.
I’ve been to Keith Jordan’s race at Timberman 3X and he does a wonderful job. I’m also friendly with the Gollnicks as well as the local RD for Rev 3. I’ve heard what they’re planning, and think it will be an unbelievable experience. Hopefully, there’s room for both races to be successful!
Diehard endorfun fan here - Mooseman/Timberman are the consistently among the best run, most fun races I’ve ever done. Awesome venues, too.
A quick question: will athletes at Mooseman have to wear those MyAthlete boxes? Will it be optional? Or does Myathlete have another option where we don’t have to wear those boxes?
