Revisiting prescription bifocal sunglasses

I have a set of Oakleys that I finally got used to for riding–I can see well enough to ride but not to read a license plate or read my watch, for example, without the bifocal part of the glasses. My only complaint is that the lenses are heavy and I can’t get used to the sensation of running with them.

Does any company make lightweight lenses that are as light as the non-prescription lens? For those glasses with the prescription insert, is the insert lightweight or more like regular glasses? Any recommendations?

My doc has suggested contacts either bifocal or corrected for distance and just use magnifiers for reading but it seems like these would be more trouble for racing, especially for swimming. Anyone use their contacts while racing? I’m too old for Lasik.

You can get 1.74 Hi Index Plastic sunglass lenses, that would be the ultimate

With oakleys your only option is Plutonite (polycarbonate) which is pretty light and more impact ressitant.

If you want oakley’s with lighter lenses you could get some eyeglasses with sunglass hi index 1.74 lenses put in:

Or some of the other sunglass brands can have custom lenses put in.

The operators at that site can help you with options.
