Hey folks! I just wanted to let you know that we are ready to give it another try with the live coverage. This Sunday, tune in at our website to watch it all unfold. After the Knoxville race, we have made many changes to hopefully bring you a much better product. Some “staff modifications” have been made and we are preparing for a spectacular show. Hope you join us Sunday morning as it should be an awesome race!
Great, hope it works. How about the ability for all athletes to wear the GPS tracking unit if they want to?
Man… The broken record continues. Looks like this is the flip side to the 5mm wetsuit comments.
Unfortunately I will not be able to watch the video, give feedback and compare… I will be volunteering on Sunday and helping out on the course.
Best of luck at keeping the Gremlins at bay and thanks for continuing to try and provide not only a great race on the course, but great coverage to help expand the popularity and enjoyment of the event for those who either have athletes racing or want to watch the pros.
My friend, I believe Trakkers is one of the main sponsors.
So we all know this is the case. I just look forward to seeing all racers being tracked live at a race with GPS. Would be great to have them grouped via AG so it really would give cool racing information.

If we all know this is the case, then why did you ask if GPS was available to all athletes?
I will re-define my previous statement: “Yes, Trakkers is one of the main sponsors and all athletes have the opportunity to use real-time GPS athlete tracking”.
Make sure your photographers and cameramen stay the he’ll away from the cyclists, this route is winding, with many sections of road that are bumpy or rutted. They will need ample room to avoid these “less than optimal” areas.
Since the first race they stated they would be available, and it just did not work out, I am just wondering if things worked out for the second race. Seems like a fair question since last time I went to watch and basically nothing was there. I just want to know if I should make an effort to try and watch this time.

Ha!
You know you’re going to make the effort. Why don’t you just direct your constant stream of trakkers related questions to the trakkers company itself?
I have a race Sunday, will probably miss the entire thing. So if no units, I do not even need to worry about it.

What are the chances of getting one of the GPS units for training and then use on race course. I tried out the mapmyride app last weekend and it was a disappointment. I sent an email to trakkers with no response, but I understand they have quite a few irons in the fire. My wife gets a bit worried when I am out on a long ride and would be awesome for her to see live updates during louisville, and augusta the following month.
Can you, or anybody here for that matter, elaborate on those less than optimal areas on the course or the winding nature of it? I’m racing sunday and haven’t ridden that neck of the woods myself. To be honest, all I know is that we’re in store for some big hills. Thanks.
Not really sure what you mean by less than optimal parts of the course but it’s not really a winding course. Not many tight turns at all. If you can ride/run hills you’ll be good to go.
Longest climb on bike is out of Thomaston about halfway through (Placid-like) but for the most part you’re either going up or down for 56 miles. The last few miles of the bike are tough as well. Run is pretty quick for first 3 miles, tough for next 4 then rolling for the remainder. There was a thread here recently which described the course if you can find it.
I’ll be spectating so if you’d like beers thrown at you then feel free to let me know.
Also looks like chance of rain for Sunday… be mucho careful on that bike. I smell some road rash for sillyheads.
I did a review a week ago on here. You can search for it, however:
There are so many twiasts and turns, ups and downs. Hardly any flat areas. Hopefully the dangerous descents will have volunteers on them to warn you. The hard climbs are relatively short but steep. The killer is the 4 mile ascent. It isn’t steep, but it goes on forever. When you get to the top, you want to get off the bike and take a break.
That being said, I still will argue the Oceanside has worse hills.
This is a very technical course and you have to be on alert at all times. You can’t just peddle and let your mind wander. It is in your interest to drive the course if you can.
And watch out for the pot holes and cracks. They are pretty bad in some areas.
By “less than optimal” I mean that there are some pieces of pavement that I would try to avoid. The worst spots have been marked with red paint, but there are some cracks that extend in the direction of travel that can be 1.5 inches deep and 2 inches wide, and 30 feet in length. In other instances the pavement is just plain rough. Now, none of these spots are massive, or unavoidable by any means. I just would like to be able to choose my path around these spots without having to worry about colliding with a cameraman.
