Return of the mammoth cat

Sorry, this photo blows my mind. I would love to have a cat this big. That would be awesome! you could fight with it on the floor- killer.

I’m just amazed by the size of this cat. Amazing.

Damn. The litter box situation must be nasty though.

Thanks - I may have nightmares tonight, geez!

I think the woman in the photo is 4 ft tall and 60 lbs.

Tom, I’d have it declawed before wrestling with that pussy!

That cat (lion) is awesome! We need more info please…

But the best part of that pic is that the cat still sees itself as small and cute enough to be picked up - that beast is quite passive in the shot.

Huge.

most people might think twice about declawing their cat (and spending more time training them to behave instead) if they knew exactly what declawing a cat entailed. Essentially it’s cutting your fingers off at the first knuckle to stop your fingernails from growing. Yes they are knocked out to do it…but they wake up eventually.

“The feline pictured is 2-year-old Maine Coon named Riley, photographed in the arms of his owner, Martha. According to Martha, Riley has lost a bit of weight recently, but he weighed about 24 lbs. at the time the picture displayed above was taken.”

(additional pictures of Riley are available at that link)

24 pounds is big but not exceptionally so for a cat. I think it’s the combination of size + floofiness

An ex-girlfriend of mine had a 22 pound Maine Coon mix cat. Looked even bigger because the fur was “puffed out” like the one in the picture. he actually looked like a dwarf lion.

His size wasn’t really problem until he developed diabetes because of his weight… and then at that point - what a pain in the a** – shots twice a day, special food, visits to the vet every other month, hiring a special pet sitter when going away for the weekend, etc.

Get that cat on a diet or you’ll regret it

gorgeous cat…anyone know the breed of cat that gets a bit bigger than Maines and looks like leopards (and don’t tell me leopards…not funny)
.

Most interesting to know would be the height and weight of the woman holding the cat. That the crucial info that could really give an idea if this is a big cat, or a HUGE cat.

the only thing worse than a cat with diabetes is one going into kidney failure (or so I am rapidly finding out)
.

Tom, tom, Tom…your looking to fight on the floor with the wrong kind of pussy…

Get a dog and you don’t have the litter box problem!

Yea we got two really old ones left. Our 16 year old diabetic had to get put down in Sept. So our two almost 20 year olds are both in early renal failure. If yours is young, work on diet, if it is an old timer just try and keep the weight on. Pets and moms and dads are no fun to watch get older. Best wishes. G

Our Holly is still pretty spritely at 13 so she’s more than worth the pill a day, diet change and sub cu fluids every five days. Wife recently added slippery elm bark to her diet to help aid digestion and looking at her today she is as healthy as I have seen her in years. Fit, plump and energetic…almost like a new cat. Good thing I have a wife who is both smart enough to find these things through net research and animal loving enough to keep her on the right regime.

Our Bengal got feline leukemia and his kidneys shut down. He basically lived on the toilet drinking water and then would go immediately to pee. That was when we finally put him down, very sad. Later I found out he was peeing in a lot of unusual places. The rusty weights in a box gave him away.

as G man put it…hard to watch loved ones get old. I miss the two cats I had to put down since I moved into our house. One with diabetes that ate away at him before we could get to it (he was nearly 20 and an outdoor cat all his life before he found us) and the other contracted feline cancer of some sorts. Got into the gums in her mouth and for the last few days couldn’t eat at all.

Kentiger-

I know the breed you are talking about. I saw one last year at the local pet store. Lady was walking it on a leash. I believe they are called Savannahs. They are a cross between an African Serval and domestic cat. They can weigh up to 30 lbs, but that is deceiving because they have a thin frame. The one I saw was only 12 lbs, but could easily reach up and take stuff off the counter. I think they are at F3 or F4 (generations from wild). I would love to own one of these, but I think my 6 and 8 lbs house cats would become a snack!

Here’s a better perspective with a smaller sibling.

Still a Big Kitty, which just happens to be my cats name even though she is nowhere near this size. And by the way I did not name the cat, I inherited it from an ex.

I am having a bigger problem. The more I see this young lady, the more I am falling in love. She has a sweet angelic face. Looks like she could never be harsh or mean. Girl next door.

As usual Monk, you get to the heart of things.

She is quite a fox, isn’t she?
