has anyone heard anything on who won?
still nothing?
Can’t find results at all?
No surprise - same thing last year - I think it took 2 days to see the full results - crazy. That may be a reflection of why it attracts such a small and “limited” pro field.
I would say that the mens pro field is pretty strong and not that “limited” with Macca, Walton, Mackenzie, Ambrose and Galindez. Those 5 alone will make for a good race at the pointy end.
macca won.
nice. womens?
it was a good race, Macca was in 4th at the 60K mark on the bike…Walton was leading at that point. I was going the other way on the bike at the time…
Macca ran down Walton with about 4K to go. I happened to be on my first loop and saw him make the catch about 20m ahead of me… It was pretty cool to see it happening live.
I’m pretty sure Linsey Corbin won, she was ahead when I saw her at the 15K point.
More thoughts on the race to come, I just got home after sitting at the border check for 3 hrs. Time to Eat!
Good result. MAcca showing good form with 2nd 70.3 win in 2 weeks leading up to Roth!
What no comments on the organization of the run course? ![]()
Okay, with that troll I’m off to get some rest. Only had about a 2 hr border wait (following a half hour of trying to find a route there that wasn’t blocked off ), but it was enough to wipe me out.
his time was 3:53:xx. the bike course was 4 miles short and the run was completely ridiculous. at the awards ceremony they took off the run so now its just a swim/bike event. the RD tried to put a spin on it saying it was somewhat our fault for not knowing the course, which is true but that was just insane. know body knew what the hell was going on. there were lots of roll downs to give away thats for sure. i got 3rd in my age with a time of 3:15:xx for the swim and bike with a 31 minute swim and 2:39 bike, and took a slot to clearwater. even at the awards cermony they did not explain the run course! everyone was like wtf is going on here is this an amateur event or an ironman? ya blah blah its the 2nd year of it but get it right. i dont think there will be a big race going on next year after this nonsense and i know i wont be there. the bike course was a blast though and the highlight of the day. hope everyone achieved their goals
i left before awards as well… how did they give out slots? i heard they were doing it based on swim/bike times?
I wasn’t there but had a bunch of friends doing the race. What in the world happened down there?
So basically, the run course was completely F***D up. The route followed a question mark shaped out and back route with a u-turn at the end that you had to do twice. Confused already? yeah me too…it wasn’t well explained at the pre-race meeting at all. They basically said that you will get a yellow mark at the u-turn on loop 1, get a red mark on loop 2, and then you will go to the finish. “Don’t worry, its very well-marked with a marker every 20 meters so you won’t get lost.” Bottom line, the volunteers didn’t know the course, tons of people ran it incorrectly. I was very fortunate, I was following another athlete that knew the way and managed to run the correct course…at least I’m pretty sure because I hit every kilometer marker in order and my splits were accurate. At the finish, everyone I talked to had some trouble with the course. Lots of people missed one of the u-turns and ran 8 miles instead of 13.1.
My speed sensor shook loose so I didn’t get an accurate distance on the bike, but I was told by the RD that it was 3K short.
If I cared about Clearwater spots, I would be infuriated…
It’s pretty shitty about all the race screw up. It is depressing when you prepare for a race, spend all the time and money, and you end up with an expensive training day. Hate to say it, but you all should have been at Clear Lake this weekend. Read the live coverage, and perhaps next time you choose a race, the Ironman brand will not be the big draw…And for those that took CLearwater slots, you know what a mess it will be, and please do not come on here and complain about it later on. You all feel somehow that just because you qualifyied for something, that it will be magical. It will be a mess, just like last year, and you can once again read all about the great race the same weekend in the Woodlands, or the Silverman in Vegas…
Monty, you are 100% right on.
The big draw for me with the Baja race was location, it being within 3 hours drive of home (Oceanside). Well, 3 hours going, more like 6 coming home with the border crossing. While I am actually pretty happy with my race (despite the short bike), i ran the correct run distance and actually had my best HIM run ever. All that said, i don’t think I’ll go back. Once was enough for me for this race.
I was there. Very strange they tried to cover it up when the two race officials out there keep telling us that they fucked up. One was standing at the 10-11k turnaround at the hotel and the other guy at the “paint party handout crazy location” where teenagers were going crazy splashing paint left and right. THEY TOLD EVERYBODY THEY FUCKED UP. THEY EVEN TOLD PEOPLE JUST TO GO BACK, THEY LOST ALL CONTROL. I stopped running three times to talk to these guys and they were just overwhelmed.
The run course was stupid, two long loops with 3 or 4 smaller loops at the south end. Nobody knew what direction one was running or how many times one was suppose to go around. The problem was when they gave you the yellow paint strip on the arm the race officials lost all control. They would not know when you came back the second time from the small loop if you had gone back to the hotel for the bigger loop or just done the small loop. Since the paint area was chaos and it was pretty much blocked for going through (think paint area with a bunch of teenagers having fun with paint, cones which blocks you going through showing that you need to turn around and an aid station for those coming south when you are going north so you would have to run against traffic) you just didn’t know what you were suppose to do. There were no natural path through the mess and when they handed you the red paint without having gone all the way to the end you were so messed up in your head because nothing made sense, time or distance. I suspect most of us did the two paint loops first then headed back to the hotel and back to the chaos to turn around. Confusing, it still is. I was probably 1 1/2 miles short, but who can tell if they even had gotten the distance on the run right. They missed 4 miles on the bike as well. I was so simple knowing that the bike was off because they sent you first south on the bike course then a turnaround after a couple of miles and back past the hotel. So when you turned around at 45k and you knew you were headed straight back to the hotel you were going to be short. The out was longer then the back.
A complete genius strategy of having two long loops with smaller loops included and try to help you get it right by throwing paint on your arms to help you get it right. Their handout description of the courses was so full of English mistakes and in one case they were telling you to make a left on the bike course when by looking at the map it was obvious it was a right. So, Ironman and the race organizers should take full accountability for their mess and mistakes. Don’t cover this one up because it will leave a bad tast.
My first Ironman senctioned event and I have raced Tri’s since 2001. A complete disaster of an event. I know people work hard tp arrange these events but basic stuff like having correct distances and a well marked courses are number 1. There was a lot at stake for many yesterday and Ironman messed up big time.
Crazy! I was supposed to race Baja this weekend, but had to pull out at the last minute. Doesn’t sound like I missed anything but chaos and disappointment. Just searching for results on ironmanbaja.com and ironman.com was enough to wonder at, but these course issues sound pretty horrible!
One great thing was Macca’s new Specialized Tri bike. Never seen the model before, looks as cool as the P3C and the new Felt. I even think he had the new Specialized Tri seat. I regret not taking a picture. It has a curved seat tube as the P3C. It looked amazing! It looked like a winning design that will attract a lot of attention.
Linsey Corbin won the women’s race - 4:32
