I just had my first RMR test. This test is designed to establish your base caloric daily requirements and allow you to gauge your daily caloric intake properly to maintain quality training efforts. I am 38, 5’10", 156lbs. and my daily RMR was 2056 calories per day. Now this is my caloric burn if I did nothing but sit all day, so it’s just what my body does to stay alive. If you add an additional 600-800 calories for common daily activites, my average daily requirement is closer to 3000. Now I can add excersise expenditures on top of that and start to get a handle on how much I need to eat every day. My weight has held very steady even as my training has increased, but I do suffer some days when my energy level is too low and that can have a detrimental effect on my perfromance and quality of workouts. So now I can adjust my food intake accordingly to better manage my calorie needs. Very interesting stuff…
Yes it is, I make all my athletes submit to that grueling 20 minutes of relaxing. Some people dont realize how important RMR is
I told my coach that this was the hardest test he has ever had me do…as I was denied my morning cup of coffee!!
