Seems like when TC starts any kind of thread around here it will get a ton of views and responses no matter what the subject. Is this primarily because she starts the most thought provoking and unique threads or is this mostly because she is a college aged female?
TC, this thread is not an attack on you or really about you at all. You should probably just sit back and enjoy the responses. I mean assuming I can get any responses after everyone is done helping you deal with the awe inspiring task of both attending school and training at the same time.
Nor is this thread for all you helpful guys who take the time out of your busy days to help a damsel in distress fix her squeeky headset or sooth her when she just doesn’t understand her bike. You will undoubtedly read this thread because it has her name in the title, but please don’t feel obligated to respond.
This thread is for all those like me (I hope there are some) who have watched for years as our little TC went from beginner triathlete, struggling runner, shin splints, roommate issues, boyfriend issues, random issues to become an accomplished runner and triathlete, college grad etc. During the last few years, every time she would author a new thread I would think, "ok, not a dumb question, but is it really interesting enough to garner as many views and responses as it has. Or is this happening because her name is tigerchik, she is in college and replying to her thread is the ST version of saying “wanna cyber?”
I mean, I already think I know the answer but what do you think?
She is a great combination of strength and vulnerability and she draws people in with that combo. My naive perspective was that she has a lot of big brothers on the forum who would like to give her advice and see her do well. I don’t want to know the truth if it’s perverted.
Why were the popular kids popular in high school? Because they were popular. Of course she gets responses because she is a young female. Why did millions of people go spend money on two Transformers movies? I’m guessing it was not because of Shia Lebeof.

She just seems like everyone’s little sister.
Have we run out of position critiques and aero advantages to debate? Always remember that the online girl of your dreams is quite often a sweaty, overweight, 40-something guy with a hairy back, living in his parents’ basement.
Note to self … shave back and move out of mom and dad’s basement.
As far as TC’s popularity, active contributors get active responses because they develop dialogue with other people on the forum. Simple as that. If the thought of cozying up to a college-age female online makes your Levis rise, then may I suggest you investigate one of the billion adult outlets on the web.
I open her threads if I think they are swimming-related, nothing more. If it isn’t, I don’t treat her posts any differently than anyone else’s (except those of the STers whose posts I utterly ignore).
I think I gave her advice before. Do not post pictures of a ctitique while you are wearing your pajama’s and as a minor do not use your real name. I saw the one critique picture and said to myself . Myself I hope my 12 YO daughter would not post a picture like this. Not that it was that bad but it is the internet and you pretty much have to watch what you put out there. And yes I opened this up because it said “responses to tigerchik’s threads.” I now normally do not open her threads anymore because I do not want to see pictures like that.
But remember, if anyone who received this type of response did not like it, they could stop at any time…it is therefore self perpetuating; just as it is for any male on the forum…its just easier for an attractive young female. The funny thing is that for a male you can only get this attention through negativity on a board dominated by males. This is the world we live in and we make it this way. Bummer.
I usually take a look at her threads because a) I have daughters, about her age and I’m always interested in the opportunity to see what’s up with girls that age and b) at least one of my daughter’s has an interest in triathlon and I know anything TC posts is a potential question my daughter might have and the the responses can be a good guage of what my daughter might have to deal with being young, female and in this sport.
So far it looks pretty safe and it definitely looks like I don’t have to bother teaching her to change a flat since there are lots and lots of very helpful guys out there . . . I wonder if the convent I am sending her to has tri club?
Agree with Erika. She’s likeable and has that “girl next door” quality.
She’s an expert - in swimming. The forum has lots of 'em in different areas - a tire expert, an industry expert, a science expert, a foot expert, used to have a smartass expert (ok so there’s a few left), lots of spelling and grammar experts, wetsuit and apparel expert. Then you have the jack of all trade experts like Rappstar and Jonnyo. The forum thrives on them.
