Republicans: Since we are on the topic of abandonment

It probably doesn’t help that Ron Paul is up there shredding you in your own debates either. What can you possibly do at this point to make people (especially swing voters, young voters, hispanics) believe that you are representing their views? Who will be the person you unite behind on the Compassionate Conservatism Part Deux campaign? You had better start bailing before the ship sinks.

Ron Paul is shredding us in the debates? How. By being an ass?

I loved the debate the other night. According to Paul, it was our fault that we were hit on 9/11 since we had troops on the Saudi peninsula in opposition to bin Laden’s demands.

I don’t know why they let the guy on the stage. He is an embarrassment.

I wouldn’t go spiking the ball just yet. Can you please add the graph of the approval rating of Congress to your post? Your data is so one year ago.

**Ron Paul is shredding us in the debates? How. By being an ass? **
No by calling out the Republican’s in their own den (despite the best effort of FOX to derail him). By gaining support (from both sides). By winning or nearly winning the debate. By adding some common sense (which you guys don’t handle too well) (note: i do not agree with a lot of Paul’s positions). By being the only person up there with the balls to say what he really believes. By having a voting record that supports what he says.

Paul better dig in because it is all about Paul and everyone knows it… The attacks will continue: fast and furious.

**I don’t know why they let the guy on the stage. He is an embarrassment. **

Yet he is probably the front runner? It shows how weak the Republican candidates are this year…a party who traditionally rallies behind a hierarchical candidate now is scrambling to get rid of the front running Libertarian black sheep. Everything is upside-down. He is the only meaningful small gov’t conservative up there.

**I wouldn’t go spiking the ball just yet. Can you please add the graph of the approval rating of Congress to your post? Your data is so one year ago. **

Yeah, did you see the first link? BTW, here is a link to the article that produced the graph (Sept 5, 08). +80% people favor impeachment. The Governator is saying: we are dying at the box office. We are not filling the seats". Fred the savior is having problems raising money. The only strength you had was the unquestioning lockstep approach. You have lost that. The people no longer trust the Republican Party and why would they?

“Yet he is probably the front runner?”

What planet are you on? He will do as well in the primaries as he did as a presidential candidate. Maybe 1% if he is lucky.

You really need to get outside an MSNBC internet poll reality. 80+% in favor of impeachment? You need to talk to actual people or read actual news.

The attacks on Paul never started and won’t continue. He will continued to be ignored, kind of like BarryP.

**You need to talk to actual people or read actual news. **

Believe it or not there are indeed news sources outside of Rush. The level of dissatisfaction with Bush in this country is staggering. You absolutely have to acknowledge that. You guys are doing a really good job working against yourselves at this point.

Who is the Republican front runner anyway? Is it Rudi “I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights" Giuliani?

The attacks on Paul never started and won’t continue.

Yeah except for all the attacks on Paul. No doubt he will implode at some point but he is doing a lot of damage. You guys need to silence him.

If a pea were to implode, would anyone notice?

**If a pea were to implode, would anyone notice? **

It depends on how far it gets lodged in the Republican windpipe.

You artfully dodged my frontrunner question though. Would the Republican frontrunner be Mitt “Flip-flopper” Romney? No one up there unites the Republican party. Without that you guys are toast, no?

The front runner is Rudy, but I wouldn’t count Romney or Thompson or even McCain out just yet. Why do you ask me this? All you need do is consult a real poll. If you do, you will see Ron Paul doesn’t get outside the margin of error, and he never will.

I suppose Ron Paul does serve some purpose in the debates in that he adds diversity to the field and gives our guys some easy target practice at a member of the lose now at any cost crowd. I don’t see a pro war candidate in the Democratic field or a pro life candidate either. The Democratic candidates all need to be right thinking or need not apply.

The Republican party will unite to support whomever is running against Hillary or Obama, period. They don’t have a rock-star candidate on their side this cycle, but unlike the primaries, where you vote for the person with whom you agree the most, the general election is about voting for whom you disagree with the least. Republicans, conservatives and many moderates will have no trouble finding issues on which to disagree with the Democrat nominee, I assure you.

80% impeachment? Paul a front-runner? You may want to re-evaluate your news sources.

As the Mr. Republican, super conservative on the board, I can tell you I would be thrilled to have four of the top five candidates in the field as a nominee, and I would probably even come around on McCain eventually after seeing him in the debate the other night.

Paul is a joke. Sensenbrenner out Kerrys John Kerry, if that is even possible to believe. Tancrado is just plain unlikeable.

As the Mr. Republican, super conservative on the board

I don’t see how one can be a “super conversative” and super pro-Bush. The two are contradictory.

I am not super pro-Bush, and never have been. He isn’t very conservative.

80% impeachment? - Ok. The source was posted to a poll that showed 80%… I didn’t make it up…several others show ±40%. It doesn’t matter, it is a train wreck and it only gets worse as time goes on. A huge amount of guttural dissatisfaction exists with Bush et al which isn’t going to just disappear. Moderate conservatives are not happy.

general election is about voting for whom you disagree with the least.

I think a pro-war ticket is a hard sell in this country right now. The Republican Party is highly fragmented and no candidate up there has been able to rally the Repubs like they have in the past. Given all that you add Paul who steals the show ranting and raving about how f-ed up the party is. Finally, the guy who might be the frontrunner is, gulp, pro-choice AND pro-gay which is a hard sell for the hard core conservatives.

And, like I said: What can you possibly do at this point to make people (especially swing voters, young voters, Hispanics) believe that you are representing their views? That’s what it will take to win imo.

Ron Paul is certainly not the front runner among the Republicans, though I wish he was.

Nor is he a joke or an embarrassment, either, Art. He is, as far as I can tell, the most principled candidate from either party at the moment. You can disagree with him, as many of his fellow Republican congressmen often do- but they all afford him the respect he earns by his principled record. You should do the same.

Heard someone mention last night that every other Republican candidate has come out squarely in favor of the war in Iraq, and that’s going to cause the Republicans a real problem in the general election, since less than 30% of Americans support the war at this point. Food for thought.

I never implied that you made it up (I’ve heard that ridiculous poll cited once or twice myself), only that you be a little more discriminating in data selection and information sources. And, in many ways, it does matter; I’m about as fed up with this admistration as anyone, but I won’t give creedence to those who make the argument that anyone who disagrees with or dislikes the president is a Bush-hating liberal suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, who doesn’t care about facts and wouldn’t recognize them to begin with. Credibility matters.

Do you believe that even 50% would support impeachment proceedings at this point? I’d give it 30%, at most.

As for the rest, I agree: it’s the Dem’s race to lose at this point, as it should be.

“Finally, the guy who might be the frontrunner is, gulp, pro-choice AND pro-gay which is a hard sell for the hard core conservatives.”

You guys are obviously believing your own spin about the intolerance of Conservatives. I am about as hard core a Republican as you can get, and I am pretty sure I will be voting for Rudy.

The intolerance is on the other side of the aisle. Tell me about the pro war or pro life candidates for the Democratic nomination. Even a very reasonable guy like Richardson immediately becomes right thinking on all the hot button issues the moment he tosses his hat into the ring.

You might want to wait until after crossing the goal line to spike the ball.

**Do you believe that even 50% would support impeachment proceedings at this point? I’d give it 30%, at most. **

Let me qualify this statement with: it won’t happen. But anyway, I think 50% would be ok with letting it happen if it did.

“Finally, the guy who might be the frontrunner is, gulp, pro-choice AND pro-gay which is a hard sell for the hard core conservatives.”
**You guys are obviously believing your own spin about the intolerance of Conservatives. **

Huh, the Republican party has been historically tolerant of gays, and a womans right to choose?

**I am about as hard core a Republican as you can get, and I am pretty sure I will be voting for Rudy. **

The lesser of the evils though… A pro-choice, pro-gay Republican candidate takes two large issues off the table for the hard core religious groups. Then it comes down to the war which is a hard sell for the majority at this point.

but I won’t give creedence to those who make the argument that anyone who disagrees with or dislikes the president is a Bush-hating liberal suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome, who doesn’t care about facts and wouldn’t recognize them to begin with

I don’t see how you could possibly interpret that argument from my posts in this thread.

“The lesser of the evils though.”

Rudy is not the lesser of evils by any stretch. He is the best candidate in my mind of five outstanding candidates. I disagree with Rudy about abortion, and maybe about gay marriage. I am not even sure about the latter. So what? We are looking for the leader of the free world here, not someone who can best fill out a questionaire.

The questionaire litmus tests and intolerance are on the other side of the aisle.
