Repairing Zipp wheel

Older style 808 Alu rim wheel. The carbon around a spoke nipple has delaminated and there is some play. What’s the long term likelyhood of successfully repairing so that it’s safe and rideable?

Zipp will usually replace the rim with a FireCrest for a ‘reasonable’ price. It would be hard to repair carbon around a spoke hole because you would really need to have access to the inside of the rim to make it structurally sound.

I think that only applies to original owner. This is a 2nd hand wheel.

You might want to try contacting Wheelbuilder.com. I recently had an old (pre-firecrest) Zipp 404 that was damaged and they gave me quotes to fix it. Options were to replace the rim with a Firecrest rim, or replace the rim with a current Zipp 60 (which is essentially the same hoop as the old 404). In both cases the costs were “crash replacement” rates that were discounted below what a new wheel would cost.

All that said, I opted for a new wheel because the costs weren’t THAT much better. Definitely worth a phone call though.
