Repair Stand

I’ve been hanging my bike from ropes in the garage to work on it and leaning it up against a tree to wash it. This works OK but is not very convenient. I am considering purchasing a repair stand.

I’m looking for something that will make it quicker and easier to get the wheels off the ground for light maintenance, adjustments and cleaning. (No major wrenching). I don’t want to spend the money to get a professional grade stand so my question is there a sub $100 folding stand that is stable enough to be useful and does anyone have any recommendations?

This one is easy: Ultimate Consumer Repair Stand Model BRS-70B. You can get it for $100 - $110. The only problem with the Ultimate, like with all stands, is that they don’t do the work for you.

I picked up a Minoura RS4000 from Nashbar a while back, with a 20% off coupon code it was like $90 (it’s $99 on sale now).

I’ve not experienced any other stands, but this one isn’t too bad. It’s sturdy and folds up very nicely. I do wish it went a little higher though…personal preference I guess. Good luck.

STP,

The Park PRS-5 folding repair stand. But you said you didn’t want to spend over $100. Sorry, you can find it for about $200 (Retail $249) most of the time. I never regretted purchasing mine, but it was expensive as stands go. Purchased mine years ago. Use it all the time. Solid, secure and portable to the max.

Anyone have the Park PCS-1? Comments or Compliments?

I have the same stand. It works great. I use it all the time. Have you SO give it to you for a present. It will be the most used present you will ever get.

I have the Ultimate BRS-70 Consumer work stand, I’ve seen them on sale for around $100. I like it, it serves my purpose.

On a slightly related note. Does anyone know a good way to get a Softride Rocket onto a work stand? Right now I just hang it by the saddle, works ok but would like something more stable. I’m alittle leary of clamping the carbon beam.

Try one of the stands that clamp the fork dropouts and support the BB. Not sure who sells them, but Tacx and a few other folks (Minoura maybe) make them.

I have the Minoura stand. It is fine, and relatively inexpensive. The only problem I have is that I hold my P3 by the seatpost, and if I take off my rear tire, the bike and stand will fall over (due to imbalance). By the way, the “gripper” does hold it good, even though the post is aero shaped.

If you hold by the top tube, it wouldn’t be a problem.

I just put my tool box on the one leg of the stand, and it’s ok.

I think the thread is dead but I am looking to get a stand this weekend from performance. Want to keep it about $100 so…
Anyone have the Park PCS-9 ($99)?
How about the PCS-1 which is a little more then I want to spend at $139 but hasthe same clamp as the more expensive parks?
Other option is the Performance Spin Dr Pro at $129.

Anyone have/use the above? Are either of the more expensice stands much better the the PCS9?

Thanks

Andrew
