I think I have decided to purchase a Renn Disk. I have the following questions-
Anyone know the lead time on them right now?
Clincher or Tubular? I ride clinchers on my bike now - not completely familiar with tubulars other than “less weight, one piece, higher psi”. If you flat during a race, do you keep a tube of glue in the bag to replace? Do you pre glue? If so, how do you keep it clean and free of debris? If not, do the TUFO tack strips work adequately?
after speaking with Frank and reading posts here, I went tubular. I used the Tufo strips, easy mounting with Conti Sprinters. Can’t say if tubbie was the right choice, but so far, so good. I don’t carry a spare, as I race sprints.
Hey Chris, I just got my clincher renn. It only took around 3 weeks, maybe just shy of 3 weeks actually. As far as question of tubular or clincher…go with whatever you run on the front. If you plan to get a front tubular go with a tubular on the rear. But I believe with easy of the clinchers and how good they are making them, makes for virtually the performance. Plus, if you want you can travel with only your race wheels and don’t have to worry about what happens if you get a flat before the race, where as a tubular flat before the race can screw things up pretty good. Only one guys opinion.
I have had two of his discs now, they are terrific. I have had both a Tub and a clincher. Buy whatever you are running up front or you will have to carry twice as many spares. If you want the best all around race setup, it is a tub. What the last post said is correct, the rim strips are alot easier and cleaner than glue. If you race in the heat , like me, than there is a Tufo extreme strip for higher temps. World Class Cycles in NY has all their stuff and is really knowledgable if you talk to the tech guy there. I actually sold one of mine and went to order another, Frank told me the wait would be 5-7 weeks for a tub, less for a clincher. I have raced mine alot and they are fast, certainly better than I am. Every age group win I have this year has been on his disc and my times are much stronger than when I use my Zipp 303 rear wheel.
