Renn disc vs. Powercranks

For pure speed over an Ironman distance, which one is more bang for the buck?

I expect some to discuss the PC’s impact on the run, and therefore the translation over to total race time, as opposed to just bike time. (My speculation - - as I have neither - - but a disc has got to have SOME impact on the run also, right? If you’re expending less energy on the bike, there’s more left for the run, right? )

So answer how you want. Total race time and/or bike time.

And if you have some statistics that we can use to compare, e.g. increased m.p.h. through use of PCs and/or a disc, it sure would be nice.

P.S.

I think the subject line and the dollar for dollar issue will pit two of the biggest fanatics on this board (Renn Disc and PC users) against each other. Could be interesting.

When questions like these arise, then we know that PC’s marketing strategy is really working…

I don’t see the bridge but I smell a Troll.

This is an apples and oranges issue. You could “what if” this to death, and not prove anything. My answer… Both.

Renn disk. Both cost bucks, but only one has bang.

Alright, try this instead: If someone was looking for a little more speed and has only $600 to throw at his bike for the season, which of the two products would you choose?

And this assumes that you’ve already bought every other gadget out there, already have a coach, train the maximum amount possible in a given week over the best range of courses possible, have the best tires, have the most aero, light, stiff and comfortable frame and any other training/riding variable that one may want to throw out instead of answering the question.

What are you comparing the Renn against? If you already have a set of nice deep rim wheels (eg Zipp 404) then based on what I have heard about PC’s, probably go with the PC’s.

To keep within the parameters of the question, assume you have a Zipp 404 or Hed 3 front wheel, and a 36hole Mavic Open Pro on the back, for some reason. In that case, I would tend towards the proven rather than the unknown. The disc is proven to be faster. PC’s are more speculative, they might help, and apparently do help a lot of folks, but they might not be for everyone.
