I saw one of these at my LBS Friday. I’m putting one on order ASAP. I’ve ridden last year’s Zipp as well as both the original and superlite Hed and a Corima. This disc blows them all away in terms of value for the $. The thing was straight as an arrow in the wheelstand, and the workmanship was flawless. I’ll admit, I had my doubts about these discs before I had a chance to truly check one out. I’ve seen them on bikes in the transition area (the older model), but never had a chance to roll the bearings or check out the workmanship. Unless you’ve just got $$ to burn frivolously on the more expensive options, buy this disc.
Frank makes a great disc and backs it! For the money it can not be beat. Have a great season.
I have to agree. I bought one of those “seconds” from Renn last fall that Frank was not quite happy with because the color was slightly off and while I haven’t had too much time to use it, I simply can’t believe the quality I have in a wheel that cost $250.00. I have owned, happily, a Hed disc, Hed Jets, Hed Deeps and a Hed 3 and this wheel fits in the same league.
Frank has really up’d his game for '04. His new disc is light and aero. I think most folks know that a disc is the fastest wheel to buy, but can’t justify spending the money on one for the few “disc races” they do. Bottom line, this disc is $395.00. Frank has eliminated the excuse.
“most folks know that a disc is the fastest wheel to buy, but can’t justify spending the money on one”
For us cheapskate types CH Aero disc covers cost only $59.95 (bought mine used for thirty bucks on ebay) and work just as well as anything else just as long as the seal is good between the rim and the cover. I’m sure you’re familiar with John’s and Kraig Willet’s windtunnel testig with these. Eventually I’ll probably upgrade to a Renn, but it will be for aesthetics and not for performance reasons.
Actually Renn’s website sells them for $319 and that is the suggested MSRP. Maybe that is the 2003 model.
Yep, the $319.00 is the 03 disc. The difference in money is more than made up for in product. Good luck guys and gals.
I just want to add my voice to the others praising the Renn 575. I was lucky enough to get one of the first ones and it's just great! The hub is awesome. I don't have any other disc to compare it to but it seems so much smoother than the Zipp404 rear that it replaces on my bicycle, I hated puting the Zipp back on. For racing in the mountains, I'll use the Zipp. For everything else, the Renn.
thanks…that was very nice of you to say.
frank
actually $319 was the 2002 price. we sold almost all of 2003 at $339. our website was badly outdated. the 2004 suggested retail is $400 for the updated 5-7-5. the old wheel is no more.
the old website can still be accessed from some search engines. i will get that fixed along with some typos shortly.
also, any pictures of you or friends on renn disc are welcome. the current trend is cervelo bikes…does anyone ride anything else…?
…is there anything else
.
no…that’s it. thanks =)
gotta go make the doughnuts
I’ve got a 2003 Renn 650 tubular disc for sale if anyone’s interested. It’s a great disc. Only selling it because I couldn’t resist getting the 575.
Well, I should soon be able to send you a pic of a totally tricked out Kestrel Talon SL with Renn 575 rear and Hed 3 front.

Frank, I managed to fly along on one of your old discs on my Yaqui to a fastest AG bike split in a triathlon last year, along with a second fastest split of the whole field in a Duathlon. I don’t know if I would have been faster on a Cervelo, but, I do know I never saw a clone of me and my bike the entire season! Couldn’t have been happier with either the Yaqui or the Renn disc last year! I’m really in a hole with my training this year, if I can pull it together soon, maybe I’ll trade up to the 575. I’ve got some pretty good pictures of the combo during races, but the RENN logo isn’t too visible…you want some of those kind of pictures anyway?
Slick - I would be interested in the disc - photo, cost etc. Hit me offline at luitjens@hotmail.com. Thanks
Frank.
When do you expect the Campy models to be available? Are you taking orders for them yet? If/when I get one, I will send you a picture of it on an Airborne Spectre.
Thx.
You guys sold me! Just wondering if anyone knows what the current lead time is on a new 575 ordered from the Renn website? Thanks
Brian,
I have one question for you now–do you have any time to train in between taking pictures of your new bike and looking for newer disc wheels at the local bike store.
I didn’t see your name on the White Lake Half list, so when is your first race? I probably shouldn’t do it, since it is the week before the Armed Forces championship, but I had to go back and erase the memory of a meltdown at mile 11 of the run.
Hope you are well.
