I just received my lovely new carbon aerobars and I was really excited until I realized that the Ironman logo on the bars doesn’t appear to be easily removable. I know, shouldn’t be a big deal, but I think it looks so freakin’ ugly!! Why can’t they just provide the decals for you to put on if you want to? I was considering painting over this, but wondered if anyone else had any thoughts on the best way of removing these (or perhaps advice on painting over decals).
Try the product sold @ Homedepot called googone. It should remove the decals without ruining the finish. But, always try it somewhere that can be used as a test first. Good luck.
Personally, I put bar tape over 'em. They don’t seem to be adhesive-type ‘stickers’, but painted on somehow. I considered using a fine emery cloth or steel wool to remove them - I’d stay away from any type of solvent since it might compromise the resin holding the carbon fiber together.
I’m leaving mine there. It may sound corny but during a long ride it reminds me of what I’m training for and kind of psyches me up a bit. I suppose after an IM or two it may not be a big deal but right now, I love 'em.
