Wow, so tempting. I almost wish that you had not posted this because I had been hoping to stash some money. Now I really want to do that race. Decisions…

I won’t try and convince you either way but you can bet it will be HOT! so prepair for the heat.

Paul

Heat is fine. I will have to drive 250 miles north to get to the race. Heat is nothing new.

I live in North Carolina and we have had a relatively coold spring. How has it been in Fla? Is there even the smallest chance of a wetsuit swim?

Thanks,

RF

In Naples things have been great. I have heard comments like the “nicest spring in 30 years”. I do not know if the swim will be wetsuit legal or not but on the mile 141 forum the general consensus is no:

I was just in Naples for a family vacation. I borrowed my fathers hybrid and road up and down gulfcoast/gordon drive a bunch of times to get some training. Weather was great, a bit windy.

Definitely very windy. If you rode down Gordon you probably rode right by where I work. What did you think about the homes in Port Royal?

Nope. Not even a small one. I heard it was 84 degrees last year, but that seems way to high.

I doubt I will even pack mine.

Nice!

The temp in baylake can jump real fast; of course a wet suite legal race is possible but highly doubtful that late in May. I swam it last year and it was not 86 but it felt like it.

Hey. I will be in naples this weekend before heading down to the keys (sisters graduation). Any suggestions for swimming or running in the area. Are there public beaches where I can take off for an open water swim?

Jude

Open water swimming at any of the beach parking areas. If you drive down Gulfshore there is a parking area every block. Each has a parking meter so just bring some quarters. Probably the best place to go is Loudermilk park, there are rest rooms etc and plenty of parking (still bring quarters though). If you are coming from Highway 41 go turn west on Banyan and drive till you hit the beach. As far runing and biking lots of flat roads. The traffic is much better now that season is winding down.
