Reflections on the eve of my 4 year anniversary in Slowtwitchia

So, you probably don’t recognize who I am, but I’ve been around here for a while. In 4 years I have less than 850 posts, good for a 0.6 per day average. Tomorrow it will be 4 years since I signed up for the new and improved forum. I found the site after finishing the 2002 Ironman Florida, and I instantly became hooked. I blame slowtwitch for adding a year to my PhD work, however, I wouldn’t be at the job I am now if I finished sooner. Crazy.

Some interesting tidbits from the last 4 years:

I remember the old forum, where anyone could post without signing in.
I remember when Demerly started posting.
I remember when Coggan left, then came back again.
I know who Oran_utan, Tibbs, Becca and Hid are.
I was an instigator for the first annual slowtwitch Palomar climb. (I posted about wanting to climb a mountain while in Cali for the 2004 Rose bowl, and Mike Plumb was kind enough to organize the event and loan me a bike).
I’ve met several slowtwitchers in person, to name a few: khai, jaylew(does he still post here?), superdave, Gerard, Mike Plumb, and Tom Demerly (I frequented his store when I lived in Metro Detroit).

Any other old-timers have some recollections to add or expand upon?

Jason does still post here.

What the heck happened to hid?

I think the TSR kit misadventure did him in. I miss his pictures.

Whoa! You signed in the same day I did. Too strange. I didn’t even think of any kind of “anniversary” until I read your post. Didn’t even think of looking at when I’d signed on.

So I guess I’ve been through everything you have, to one degree or another (though my post count gets me to 1.4 per day – whoopie…).

Actually, everyone who moved over from the old forum that 1st day signed up on the same date, Dec 18, 2002. Looks like you guys switched over the next day.

Not curious about becca?

I remember when the forum format first changed and I hated it at first. Now this one seems so natural that I barely remember what the old one looked like. There were never any “Your seat is too high” comments back then

For some reason the 1st thing that comes to mind is the gtingley(back when he was gary in SD)/Powercrank fiasco.

I just happened to click on my name to check some old posts, and noticed it was coming up on the 19th.

I used to check slowtwitch religously, however lately with a new job I haven’t had as much time to train - lessening my interest in this board.

I’m trying to make a comeback now though, and get back in shape after (hopefully) bottoming out. I guess the anniversary gives me some extra motivation.

There has definitely been a lot of drama that has unfolded that I didn’t even hint upon. Probably a lot I have missed lately.

My four year is on Christmas day.

Yeah, I’ve gone through a few periods of several months w/o reading/posting. You feeel too guilty to come around here when you’re not training.

Oohh!! Story time, story time! I know about Tibbs, and I’ve heard about Oran_utan, but tell us about Hid and Becca!!

-C

Um, no.

Hid is not a real story of note. The guy helped design and organized TSR kit which was used to help obtain a bike, from a famous bike vendor who posts here, for a ST member. I think the majority of people got what they ordered, including me, but there seem to be some screw ups and possibly some upset people. Hid kind of disappeared afterwards, which I think was unfortunate. He was a positive contributor before the kit deal.

Now, I, for one, would like to know a little bit more about the Becca story. Is there a real female Becca that does triathlons, and is in love with Bjorn, or was it another Ster having a little fun with all of us?

Came on just after you. I have the proud privalige the Becca thread and penguin game. Those threads had huge hits back then. I read much more than posting now though. Happy AN
