So I am getting ready to start at my local tri this morning and we are gathering in waves (by swim cap color) and I notice that everyone in MY red swim caps were female. I am not (not that there is anything wrong with it). So I ask the volunteer if there is something wrong and she finds one other guy with a red swim cap. I immediately go to him and we figure something is wrong. We find someone a little more in charge and he tells us to jump in the next wave (white swim cap that happens to be our age group). So we are getting dirty looks from all the guys thinking we are cheating by geting in an earlier wave.
I can’t wait to see the race results. Maybe I placed in the womens race. Nah, probably was too slow there too.

lol good story, probably freaked you out a little bit.
Maybe they were giving you dirty looks because you looked so good ? ![]()
.
More than likely someone just accidentally gave you (and the other guy) the wrong swim cap. As long as you were registered in the correct age group and started with your age group it shouldn’t matter.
so, did it psyche you out?
you could have just said you were in sexual limbo…
(just kidding)
i’m sure your results came out according to your registration; not the color of your cap. probably just a mistake with bagging, as someone else already pointed out.
Nah, it didn’t phyche me out. It was a “B” race just to see where I was in my training.
I just went back and looked at my registration. Sure enough, the F was for female and not my middle initial.
Now I am really waiting to see the results.
Is there a USAT rule against this? Am I in trouble? I didn’t actually stay and get the trophy or anything. I got out of there before I got accused of anything!
What will my wife say? I am sure she will give me a real bad time.
You got 2nd female in your age group! I guess we should have stayed for awards, huh? One hell of a swim, too! I sent you a link to the results.

This smacks as a typical ‘issue’ at the L.A. Tri series at Bonelli Park. Things I’ve noticed:
- run course shared with a ‘dog walk’ event. Had to dodge/hurdle dogs and leashes.
- unmarked course. Been lost more than once there. “Where do I go?” “Stay to the left, then turn right.”
- sleeping course workers. I didn’t see it, but my friend who was leading overall came across that.
- dog poop in the middle of the transition alley
- styrofoam cups used at aid stations. Imagine them being tossed and stepped on by fellow racers. Good luck cleaning that mess up!
- first buoy way to left of beach start. Gun goes off, nearly everybody runs down beach instead of entering water like RD asked them too.
- chasing down lead swimmer (white cap) only to find out it was a goose paddling about on the lake.
This was Ventura Breath of Life, but they did a pretty good job with the race. I didn’t see too much drafting, course was well marked, bike course was either shut down to traffic or lanes were plenty wide for riding/passing, parking was close to transition, plenty of aid stations on the run. I’d definitely do it again.
I remember the Bonelli races in the late 80’s and don’t remember them being that screwed up. I know plenty of people have written in here about their problems lately. The only negative I remember from those years was the smell of boat fuel from the greenish/brown lake.

Yes, I got second place in the “older” woman’s catagory!
I should have stayed for the awards. you think they would have given it to me?
Anyway, that first place woman was fast!
I have never placed as a woman, hum? Possibilities?
I haven’t been back to bonelli for a couple of years - been wanting to, but schedule issues…
I don’t consider much of what I wrote so much as problems, more just the quirkiness of that race series. You have to go into the races knowing this and just smile and be entertained by it… “That’s Bonelli!”
God is giving you a hint!
She was fast, wasn’t she? I think she’s a pretty solid AG competitor nationally. I know I’ve heard her name before.
Either you are implying I should change sex or lose weight. Perhaps both would help?
Thanks, you have added to my motivation either way!
