Hey, what are some good recovery drinks on the market? After my workout sessions, I rarely drink and/or eat anything within an hour and I am trying to change that, but I don’t know of any good recovery drinks.
Thanks.

Powerbar Protein Plus … works magic for me
Or skim milk, banana, maltodextrin and whey protein …
The 4 CHO/1 PRO formulas work pretty well for me. I forego buying the expensive premixes, though. You can get the same mix on your own with whole foods, or maybe whole foods/protein powder mix. I like to stay as close to real foods as I can…My usual after-workout drink is 1%milk/frozen strawberries/frozen pinapple/chocolate protein powder…mixed to provide 4-1 ratio and the appropriate calories for the duration of workout.
For workouts in the 5 hr and up range I’ll toss in a bit of peanut butter…blend it all up and drink at your own pace…
A really great post workout drink is SUPER cheap and simple…chocolate milk. I believe Monique Ryan is one well known nutritionist who espouses the simple chocolate milk. Of course lactose-intolerant folks will have an issue with this…
Go over and read the nutrition articles on Gordo’s site or Rich Strauss’s www.cruciblefitness.com… for some further information on recovery nutrition…
You don’t need to pour your $ into the supplement/manufactured nutrition producer’s pockets to get good recovery…I’ve tried it both ways, and have found that staying as close to 100% real food:
I’d start with trying the chocolate milk…I’ll usually start with 1 cup of milk/1 serving of syrup for every hour of exercise…Try this for a while and see how it works…you can add the frozen fruit and protein powder as you like and see how you react to each variation…just try to stay around the 4/1 cho/pro ratio. (I use frozen fruit because that precludes me having to add ice cubes…you can use fresh when available (its tastier)…and just add a few ice cubes to the blender).
If you find that you absolutely can’t work with real foods…look at drinks like R4.
8th continent lite chocolate soy milk rocks for a recovery drink, protein, carbs, and the lite is not excessive on the calories.
Buy a blender.
SIS rego - which includes a nice Chocolate flavour. I also sprinkle in some banana rego into my race morning porage before I add the water - Evidently its the breakfast of champions (+me).
I usually have chocolate milk and watermellon after a workout and when I get home I eat a bowl of kashi protein cereal and a protein smoothie with lots of glutamine in it. Works great for me and I dont get the post workout bonk blues. See ya out at SA next month.

Eric,
I have had success with Hammer’s Recoverite product. I’ve used R4 in the past but feel I recover faster and feel better when using Recoverite.
1 32oz Nalgene of Recoverite and a boca burger does the trick for me after long rides/runs.
Best of Luck

Ensure.
fat free lactose free chocolate milk. Right around 4:1, cheap, and no overdone vitamin enriched good for you horrible aftertaste.
Was considering switching from endurox to recoverite - how does the taste / flavouring compare?
I’ve also switched from Endurox to Recoverite. It tastes better, works better, costs less.
so, this is what I had today for a recovery drink:
1 cup nofat yogurt
1 cup chocolate milk
25g of protein powder
4oz of strawberries
4oz of mixed berries
Man, that was yummy. Does this look good to everyone?
Thanks.
That looks pretty good to me - nice effort! When I was using Hammer Whey mixed with fruit juice after hard efforts, I was getting about 20-35g protein, depending on the size of my drink. I am now a big fan of Recoverite, and support what others have said above. The protein portion of the recommended two scoops is 10g, but added to that are 3000mg of L-Glutamine, a plus other amino acids, plus a generous array of electrolytes; the carb:protein ratio is 3:1. This is sueprior stuff!
Recoverite is listed as citrus. It has a very light citrus flavor but I’d say the flavor is more light vanilla than anything. It doesn’t have any significant disturbing flavor/aftertaste to speak of.
.
I agree with the others recommending Recoverite. Somtimes I’ll mix it with fruit in a smoothie…great when it’s hot, and you’re ready to go the next day!
Soy milk + a banana, or you could buy the same thing in a designer box with “Recovery” in the title for about 20x the cost.
I’m completely surprised that someone digs up one of my threads that is 2 years old and people start replying to it again.
