Recon of Silverman

I’ve just got back from Vegas and watching Silverman.

Congratulations to all that completed Silverman! Kudo’s to Born for that impressive ride with a dangling bar extension! I walked over and looked at his bike and couldn’t believe he rode that course like that! Kudo’s to Eric for hanging with Tyler! Eric got off the bike and looked like he could of run the marathon. Also, kudo’s to Kimeli for not giving up! I overheard a lady who was in charge of the aid stations say that Kimeli was running so fast the guy riding the bike for the elite male was having a heck of a work out trying to stay out in front of him. She also mentioned that Kimeli never stopped at the aid stations before he stopped at 23 miles.

I highly recommend this race even though I didn’t race it! That was my plug for Frank.

The bike course is tough, as I rode part of it on Friday before the race with a gusty wind. “Three Sisters” on the bike trail have to hurt after that much riding. I can’t see a lot of drafting on this bike course which is a plus.

The aid stations appeared to be fully stocked with friendly volunteers.

At the finish line was 2 hot tubs! I actually saw the medical people take a racer off a ambulance bed and put in the hot tub around the 8 hour mark. He appeared to be cramping severly.

The 2 announcers had some good one liners for the racers and fans. Including some pointed at Dave Scott.

As monty said in another thread, this made me feel like I was at a “OLD SCHOOL” race.

Interesting people to hang out with such as Slowman, Dave Scott, Tyler, Born, John Kenny, etc. Saturday at the expo I talked with Scott from OOMPH. If you have not tried his Lava Shorts, your missing out! My plug for Scott.

You can place your Over/Under bets on the Individual winner at Silverman with a bookie! He was giving 10 hrs 30 min. Wonder if anyone won it?

T2 is located right off I-215 next to a outdoor shopping malls and Casino. Easy to get to from the strip. Plus if you have family or friends there are numerous places to eat such as cheesecakefactory, panera bread, whole foods, etc. I’ve done races before and my family has complained that there was nothing to do while they waited for me and no place to eat.

Summary, Frank put on a hell of a race that has something for the competitor and the competitors family and friends! Good job Frank!

AND it is the only race that you will EVER see a BENTO BOX on Tyler’s TT bike!!!

Look at the angle of Tyler’s seat!! I can’t imagine holding my ass from sliding off the front for 112 miles.

Yeah I noticed that but couldn’t figure out what he put in it, cause it’s smaller than a regular “Bento Box”. Also, what you can’t tell by your photo is that his aero bars where low compared to his seat. But not as low as Born’s! I’ve seen pic’s of Born’s, but to actually see it is amazing!
