Recommendations on wheelset for training only

I just received my early Christmas present from my wife. A 2004 QR Tiphoon. It has a Real Design Supersonic Carbon wheelset. I took it for it’s maiden voyage and comparing the ride to a 2000 QR Tequilo, it is so unbelievably comfortable. I am in total awe. Now I have a dilemma. I would like to save the Real Design carbon wheelset for races only therefore I need to purchase a reliable set of training wheels. Unfortunately my Tequilo was 650c so they are of no help. Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m an enormous fan of Mavic Cosmos for training.

Tom,

Thanks for the advice. How much should one expect to pay for a set of Mavic Cosmos? What would your opinion of Velocity Deep V be?

$220 Ultegra/Open Pro, 32h w brass nips & 14/15 db DT spokes. Pick: coloradocyclist/excel/performance/nashbar

Cant ask for a lighter, more durable (for the price) training wheelset

Ah, thanks. $199 at Colorado Cyclist. Sounds like a bargain to me.
Oops! That was for the Mavic Cosmos.

I love my CXP 33’s with DA hubs for training. Not that aero and sort of on the heavy side and bullet proof. Makes race wheels that much better!

The best wheels money can buy are had at www.velomax.com.

Their second-tier wheel is a dream for the price. It will last you till the end of time, and they’re light and strong.

Yes, that’s what I ride, too. And, as I’m a heavy guy with 36 spokes.

Frank

I also use Mavic Cosmos for training wheels… Best bang for your $$$!! Infact I find they are VERY good wheels!
